Zorin OS 6 Lite is released

The Zorin OS Team are proud to finally release Zorin OS 6 Lite, the latest evolution of the Zorin OS Lite series of operating systems, designed specifically for Windows users utilizing old or low-powered hardware. This release is based on Lubuntu 11.10 and uses the LXDE desktop environment to provide one of the fastest and most feature-packed interfaces for low-spec machines. New features and refinements include a more lightweight version of the Software Center which makes it much easier to install applications in Zorin OS Lite and update programs.
We also include our innovative Zorin Look Changer, Zorin Internet Browser Manager, Zorin OS Lite Extra Software and other programs from our earlier versions in Zorin OS 6 Lite.
You can download Zorin OS 6 Lite from the “Lite” section on our free downloads page.

We hope that you will enjoy using Zorin OS 6 Lite !

Thank you, sorry for the harsh comment :P

It’s become a hobby for me to try new distros.  Zorin is one of my favorites.  Great job.  Cannot wait to try this new Lite version.  Thanks.
The main goal of Zorin OS is to give Windows users easy access to Linux.
The screeshot looks nothing like any version of Windows I’ve ever seen – not that I’m a big fan ;)

Looks like slightly tweaked LXDE. Is Zorin OS Look changer available with this release?

• Anonymous

We have made the desktop look like Windows 2000 (Windows Classic desktop) in order to be light on resources.
We also incorporate the Zorin Look Changer into Zorin OS 6 Lite, which includes the Windows 2000 and Mac OS X looks.

I think you’re doing a very good job. Can’t wait to see the new Zorin OS 6 Core & Educational.

Removed ADeskBar,
added Docky (w/xcompmgr) –
the result is quite a good looking distro. I hope it gives new life to my old
PC.

One
minor gripe:

Internet
Browser manager would not uninstall Chromium. Not even after I made another
browser default. “sudo apt-get remove chromium*” helped.

• Christopher Lynn

Looks good.  I’ll give it a test this weekend on the laptops.

Dell Mini 10
Dell Latitude D610
Dell Inspiron 9400
Acer Aspire 54xx series

If it has the wireless fix for the ath9k to stop it from dropping in all disposable laptops walmart sells you’ve got a product.

There is no way to install extra software, it always return error: “An error occurred” when I click on any of Install buttons.
Other things are good.

• wolfman

The mirrors you are using are more geared to advertising themselves than supplying links to ISO’s, I did after 5 mins of searching find alink on the Ibilo site but only after an extensive search. If you want people to try it out, make it easy for them!!!!!!!!.

He’s right. Same problem with the previous versions of Zorin Lite, too. No idea what could cause the problem.

• Mas_suwondo

It’s just in my mind !!! How if we set the AWN for the default panel by replacing the xfce panel. So we can use gnomenu and others to extend the interactivity  ??? I think it’s considerable solutions, that we can et a minimal system (using xfce) but optimal visual and interactivity (using AWN).

• Elburrochon

dumb people Linux is not for Windoze Users…. dont ask just try it…! how you going to learn it.

• Elburrochon

plus you got http://www.distrowatch.com    :p

• andrewsjp

Playing with the lite version. I like the MAC look. I just updated and I get the upgrade to 12.04 message. Should I upgrade or not?

• Hotchili

No. Your system will be a mess.

• paul

I’m sure most people will assume,as I did, that ‘upgrade’ is the best option after installing Zorin Lite. Attempted the upgrade and got numerous error messages so do I now have a messed up system? Hardly a great introduction to a new OS and surely a message not to Upgrade on the download page would be extremely useful.

• HARRYSWORLD

I installed Zorin but it seems to put ‘Grub’ all over my drives. I could not operate. I have 5 drives with other OS’s installed to include Ubuntu. A PRO had to pull it back out.
Would be nice if they associated Wubi and Zorin.

• Ric

First time user of Zorin OS and I’m impressed with this Lite version. One question, would it be safe to upgrade to 12.04 LTS from the 11.10 Zorin OS 6 Lite is currently using?

• http://www.facebook.com/erik.floistrup Erik Flöistrup

Weird, they release a lite version but don’t provide the hardware requirements. Please correct Zorin.

I used Zorin 5 and found it great!
Let me try this too!!

• Laskaris

Very nice distro, better than original Lubuntu 12.04. PAE Kernel works like a charm (yes, suspend and hibernate work). Definitely best of all lite distros out there. Thank you Zorin!
