Zorin OS 6 Core and Ultimate are unleashed

18 June, 2012 - All, Zorin OS

The Zorin OS Team are proud to release the Zorin OS 6 Core and Ultimate, the latest version of our operating system designed for Windows users and those who are dissatisfied with the Unity and Gnome Shell offerings. At the core of Zorin OS 6 lies our new, unique desktop environment named “Zorin Desktop”. We also include our innovative Zorin Look Changer which allows users to choose between the Windows 7, XP and GNOME 2 graphical interfaces (in Core) as well as the Mac OS X, Unity and Windows 2000 interfaces in Zorin OS Ultimate. Zorin Desktop embraces all of the latest and greatest Open Source software and technologies such as Gtk3 and other software from the GNOME 3 software stack, all without affecting the familiarity, usability and customizability of the desktop and retaining the Compiz window manager. Along with the new desktop environment, Zorin OS 6 packs a ton of software updates: a newly redesigned Software Center, Linux Kernel version 3.2 and a load of other improvements and features. We also include our Zorin Web Browser Manager, Zorin Background Plus (Ultimate only) and other programs from our earlier versions. As Zorin OS 6 is based on Ubuntu 12.04 it is an LTS (Long Term Support) release, provided with 5 years of security updates.

You can download Zorin OS 6 Core here.
You can donate to support our project and get Zorin OS 6 Ultimate on a disc or download with technical support here.

The Zorin OS 6 Educational, Business, Multimedia and Gaming editions will be released over the next few weeks.

We hope that you will enjoy using Zorin OS 6!

    Congratulations, wonderful Zorin Team!
Hope to review your new distribution soon!

noobs easily will click on “exit” and lost the “panel” (dock)

  • For what it’s worth

I really don’t understand why anyone would pay for software when most of it is already out there for free. And to use the name “Ultimate” witch in no way can hold a candle to Thee Mahn’s “Ultimate Edition” (witch IS $FREE$) is truly shameful. Not to say you have not put out a good looking distro, but donations should be the measure of your work.
Don’t prey on converts from other systems that are used to paying for an os.
Linux was meant to be free. You have some good concepts. Now you just need to follow the program and let your work speak for it self.
    Good luck with that, Dan

    • maxweis1

I think you have a few things mixed up with the word “free”. If you download it, yes it is free, although if you like it, contribute towards further development of future editions. And, if you look at the definition of the word “free” in the GNU/Linux license, you will see that it means “free” as in to copy, modify, and to distribute. If I spend my time towards downloading, burning to disc, printing a Professional Label, packaging, printing a packing slip & 1st class postage, etc., and the cost of materials, I will charge a reasonable fee for my services!!! And states in the GPL. Quit listening to others and go read it yourself!!! Enuff said…

      • For What it’s Worth

OK, I have used an earlier version of Zorin and my first impression was good. I thought this could grow into something the people will like.
It appears that Zorin does have followers for now. And yes, I did not talk about the limited free version. As I played with it for some time and looked over the other versions of Zorin (with great expectations), I saw nothing that was worth paying for. Most of what I found in Zorin, had been published on various web sites and how to’s. The visual changer (ultimate version) was not free and while it looked like it was nicely done, I would think that anyone using this would set it once, then run with that said configuration. Again, this mod has been publish several times allowing ms & ios visual appearance. Any of your followers digging into Linux, should be able to tweak a system to just the right flavour to suit there needs.
Zorin is not bad. It’s just nothing that special that I would recommend it to a friend. My recommended distros for new comers are:
        1. PCLinuxOS (kde) Full Monty
        2. Ultimate Edition (down at the moment)
Both are loaded with tons of programs, are works right out of the box types, very easy to learn/use and well supported.

        • Ariya

You can try Oz Linux Black Opal too. That’s very good remix of Ubuntu 12.04

          • For What it’s Worth

Yes, and it’s also loaded, supported and free!

          • For What it’s Worth

Yes, and it’s also loaded, supported and free!

    • shadowguy14

I agree with you, UE makes this look like nothing, and the forced donation isn’t liked at all

      • Wolfman

        download the “Free” version!

      >Now you just need to follow the program .

I have kids with “YOU NEED to” comments.

      >and let your work speak for it self

And what to eat while it speaks???

  • Bruce R

I’m sorry to have to break it to you, but the 64bit version has issues, whilst due to the way that you have chosen to setup feedback you clearly don’t know that the RC had lots of bugs, mainly crashes of the automatic error reporting system which would have prevented other error reports reaching you. It’s a shame because the 32bit version 5.2 was brilliant, whilst that 64bit version didn’t include the ‘plugins’ needed and was generally poorer which may be contributing to 64bit v6 problems.
As to being able to provide feedback, this more open ‘Clem-style’ Commenting is better than the ‘strings attached’ more closed style adopted for v6RC, so good luck with it.
Please note that my reluctantly-supplied eMail address is not intended for publication or for indiscriminate use by third parties.

    • Wolfman

To fix any problems, first fully update the system correctly:

      http://www.zoringroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1617
      http://www.zoringroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1694

      And last but not least:

      http://www.zoringroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1618

in case you have broken files.

The error report problem is down to Ubuntu!!.

      Regards Wolfman

      • Bruce R

Good advice Wolfman, but I’d already used Update Manager and ignored its ‘alls well’ message, with Check revealing quite a lot of Updates including a new kernel for the 32bit version which is running surprisingly well off a Lexar USBkey and is a strong candidate for use on my R60 Thinkpad.
Added Sound Juicer has other problems, but that’s another story,
As to the Ubuntu error reporting failure that confirms the importance of this alternative, open-style Commenting, IMO.

        • Wolfman

          Hi Bruce,

I fully agree with you, all devs must be able to take the positive praise as well as the negative critique.

A lot of problems can be avoided by both OS creator and end user if they both use common sense!!. far too many devs create “Coffee Coasters”; and far to many users don’t read the how-to section before posting their problem or generally doing any research!!.

I myself am not an expert but an advanced user, there are still many things about Linux that I have no idea about, I do however, try to employ “Common Sense”.

Having an open (public) discussion board is also a point in the Zorin devs favour, they want the feedback to help improve their services.

          Regards Wolfman

          • Bruce R

I too am not a geek in the sense of manipulating raw code, preferring to use simple, graphical interfaces like the surprisingly capable Synaptic Package Manager, but use Command Line Instructions when really needed and also Browse through the ‘Software Center’, which works more slowly.
I could go on at length about other customization possibilities, but the 32bit version is now working very well after 49 Updates, on an ’8GB’ Lexar TwistTurn JumpDrive that transports without serious problems between desktop, laptop and notebook host PCs.
As a parting tip, if you want VBR2 MP3 ripping that’s now denied by Sound Juicer, try RipperX, but don’t forget to add Lame.

        • Wolfman

          Hi Bruce,

one more thing about sound, I recommend using Pulse Audio Manager:

          http://www.zoringroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2023

          Regards Wolfman

      • Bruce R

And now a PostScript – I can see why you suggested CLI commands, because the Update Manager has problems, particularly in the 64bit version where, after very patient multiple tries I got it to Update, so that this Post is from its Synaptic-added FireFox13.0 (The Zorin Browser Manager is broken). It’s slower than the 32bit version.
Overall, this release isn’t for newbie, Windows refugees and IMO needs a tidy-up and 6.0.1 re-release before it is. For example, unlike 32bit v5.2, right-click, Properties, Permissions, Allow executing file as program, isn’t exactly intuitive. I could make a longer list, but you’ll get the idea.

It is not just Zorin that does not allow you to submit reports, but all distros ‘based’ on Ubuntu won’t allow you too either – I am sure Canonical would not be interested in sorting out Zorin issues! If you wish to report issues, then please post on the forum/s or PM AZorin or zorink on there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ravshansbox Ravshan Samandarov

In my opinion User Interfaces must not be option for Ultimate, i’d prefer to pay for support rather than additional UI elements and i think there’s nearly no one who wants to use Windows 2000 look&feel, poor strategy for business.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ravshansbox Ravshan Samandarov

It’s a bad idea to give software product names by authors last name…

    • Wolfman

Why, the Zorin brothers are clearly proud of their heritage, why shouldn’t they use their family name??.

Could you give me some more examples except this???

          Ford Motors (Henry Ford)
          Tata Group (Jamsedji Tata. India)

          Selfridges (Harry Gordon Selfridge. USA/UK)

Thank you, Zorin team !!! An excellent system. Downloaded and installed today – no problems so far. VERY impressed. Zorin 5.2 has been my working system for some time – now to be replaced with 6. Thanks again….

  • maxweis1

Thanks guys for all the hard work you did on Zorin 6…I must admit…much more than Ubuntu and with the looks of Linux Mint = Zorin with the feel of Win 7 Ult. I had been using the others trying to come up with that right feel. Then out of the blue, Zorin 6 enters the picture!!! Awesome!!! Exactly what I was looking for!!! Thanks very much!!!

  • Chdslv

Ultimate is Ultimate and made by Thee Mahn. Zoryn in good, so there is no need to take other people’s distro names, even though they are not copyrighted. Making a Linux distro look like MS Windows, only gives more free advertisements to Windows. “They just can’t stay away from Windows, eh?” would be the first thoughts.
Donating for a distro is a very good idea, as by doing so, one becomes a part of that distro. Maybe it is best to say that Zoryn is selling one distro, while giving away another of lesser value. Anyway, I wish him success!

Ultimate and made by Thee Mahn

      No-no-no:

Ultimate!, an album by The Yardbirds

      Ultimate (Boney M. album)

      Ultimate (Pet Shop Boys album)

Ultimate Prince or just Ultimate, an album by Prince

“Ultimate”, a song by Lindsay Lohan from the Freaky Friday soundtrack album

  • Jesse Avalos

    Hello, Guys
I will have My re-spin of Zorin 06 for download with lots of plug-ins,Lots of Extra Apps and software as per my youtube videos. I will be working to have it ready by this weekend or next for a Download for Free will only be 32bit (sorry) . Thanks, Jesse

    • george

Nice one, i liked your re-spins. Which one will you be putting up ? Second one ?

  • Amzo

Making donation mandatory is “sick”. I converted around 40 people to Linux Mint. If I have to pay for ultimate edition then why should I waste my time in free advertising?

LM got $13000 as donation in May’2012. Exclude the sponsors. By literally selling distro, I wish you good luck to get at least 30% of that self motivated donation. Period.

    • Big Tom

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy the ultimate version. You can find the
core, lite and educational versions on their site which anyone can
download for free. Unfortunately only Mint and a few other distros have
sponsors and get a lot of donations. Most of other developers use their
own money to develop their distros. There is nothing free in this world
and somene has to pay the bill. If we don’t support such wonderful
distros as Zorin OS, they will simply disappear as many already did. As
far as I know the developers of Zorin OS are students and I
personally would not mind donating to their project which, in my
opinion, helps to bring more people to the Linux community.

      • Amzo

        Looks catchy, but…

        1. At initial stage, Mint was not boosted by sponsors. Their hard work earned sponsors. If you believe Zorin is so good, it ‘ll earn in near future.

        2. Linux/GPL is synonymous to free/freedom. Let exclude me. I ‘m comparatively pro, currently working on ArchBSD [https://github.com/Amzo/ArchBSD] , so neither zorin nor mint is MY distro.

When somebody visit this site, feels the “ultimate” saga, do you think he ‘ll donate…just to donate?

Where ‘ll you (zorin) stand if Debian/Ubuntu start mandatory “donation” cause they’re not profiting enough?

        • Big Tom

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong if developers encourage their users to donate to their project by offering their personal technical support and a premium version of their software with updates. No one complains that Red Hat and some other open source developers charge for their services. No one forces anyone to donate. Those who cannot or do not wish to support the project financially, can download Zorin OS core, lite and educational for free. Please note that the free edition, Zorin OS Core (1.7gb) has more programs than Linux Mint (1.2gb), is more customizable (it has Compiz preinstalled) and has less bugs. It has some unique apps (Zorin Desktop, Zorin Look Changer, Zorin Browser Manager etc.) which no other distro has. Those who don’t like the software are free to move on to another distro, a good selection of which you can easily find on the Distrowatch.
If you read the GPL ( http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html ) thoroughly, you will find the following: ”When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for them if you wish)“.

          • Wolfman

            Hi Daniel,

you must consider that there are people from all over the world and the wages vary a great deal from one country to the next. Ten Euros may not be a lot of money where you live, but what about a small family in India or China where the workers wages are very poor!!.

          • Wolfman

            Hi Daniel,

            Some people are cheap

          • Wolfman

And some people just don’t have the money as the banks have taken it all to pay for the bankers new car and yacht!!

        • A Capitalist

A mandatory donation is called a “price” A donation is not mandatory. You give if you want to support the cause or work. I “donated” both to version 5.2 as well as to version 6. Why??? because I like the product and hope they continue to refine and improve upon it. Sure I could have downloaded the free core and added the programs myself but that won’t encourage the developer to develop. By the way I did “donate just to donate”; with hopes for an even greater Zorin OS 7. I hope you understand free is only free as long as someone(s) support it. No support…No future.

          • http://www.facebook.com/rucadulu Russell Cowan

Well said Capitalist, I could not agree with you more. All the major Linux Distributions (with a rare exception) collect fees for their products in one form or another. This can be in commercial support or fees for the product its self. All one has to do is look around to see this. Fedora/Redhat, Ubuntu/Canonical, OpenSUSE/NovellSUSE, Mandriva, Oracle, etc. Need I go on. So to those who question Zorin OS’s motives, I say you that you then need to question all major Linux Distribution motives. As they are all guilty of collecting fee’s for their products.

      • lesnlynne

I totally agree. I have been a microsoft user since the window 3.11 days, and have only just moved away. I totally love Zorin and will convert a lot of my friends and family over to it. Keep up the good work guys. We can’t all be tech heads and this makes the move so much easier.

  • ElectricPrism

The screenshots of your OS confused me enough to make me spend some time trying to figure out what your OS actually is.

Even Mr Gates knows that a good product achieving a good response from 80% of users is a success – seeing screenshots similar to obsolete versions of Windows unfortunately doesn’t sell me on a OS – maybe you’re trying to be the corporate desktop for the masses of IBM drones – but Windows XP, 2000, Gnome 2 ? Not my cup of tea .02

PS: I think banking more in featuring your OS as the premiere Linux Gaming Distro would easily be a wiser move.

  • George

Gnomenu applet still crashes in 32-bit when changing menu theme.

Couldn’t you include some introductary small video clip (especially in the ultimate edition, downloadable for the core users) of what zorin os can do or how to do some basic stuff ? A linux mint-like introduction screen would be a big plus to get new users comfortable with zorin os quickly.

    • Hotchili

You’re right about the Gnomenu. It’ a “little” annoying.

      Use the Netherlands(NLUUG) download–takes only about 1 1/2 hrs.

  • Wanderer

Seems simple enough to me. If you don’t like the programming turn off the set.
    Make your own distro and quit W H I N I N G!

  • Marios

Congratulations for the new release. However, why can’t I customise the desktop settings in “Classic Linux” so much like in the previous version? In the other looks it’s ok but there I have so little choice. It is GNOME 2 DE after all, isn’t it?

    • Wolfman

      Hi Marios,

it isn’t Gnome 2, it is a “Gnome 2″ look, nothing more, the devs at Gnome have taken several steps backwards with the development of G3 and people seem to think it is the individual distro devs who are responsible, this is not the case, the distro devs can only work with the tools at hand. Gnome Org took 50% of the tools out of G3 and now there are very few tweaks available until they put it right!.

You can use Ubuntu Tweak and Dconf-Editor to tweak your desktop, but only to a certain extent.

Zorin OS has its look changer which can give you a different DE without too much hassle.

      Regards Wolfman:)

      • Marios

Thanks for the answer. One more question. Could I install another DE like MATE or KDE or will there be incompatibility with the current settings and Compiz? Thank you in advance.

        • Wolfman

I cannot say 100% that you won’t have a problem but you should be okay using any desktop you want!!. You can do this with most (if not all) distros as far as I know!!.

          Regards Wolfman:)

    • Wolfman

      Hi Robin,

if you burnt a disk from the ISO, did you do so at the slowest possible speed, if you didn’t; you may well have read/write errors on the disk!!. (This is on the assumption that you are not using a USB install!!)

Love this release, the best yet and the bugs are near non-existent. Keep up the good work guys and can’t wait to see what you do with version 7!

  • MH

I am interested in Zorin to replace a few windows desktops at the office. Just for the basic users who just need a browser, office and email client. So far Zorin looks like a good candidate, however I tried ver 6 and I cant get it to connect to active directory. Centrifydc will not install, it worked in ver 5.2 but not 6. Says os is not supported. If I can get Zorin to link to active directory, then I really dont mind purchasing Ultimate. Any tips to get it to work ? Thanks

    • Wolfman

      Hi MH,

      maybe this will help you:

      http://davidmburke.com/2012/04/26/ubuntu-12-04-deployment-with-active-directory/

I don’t know how to do it myself and I hope it is what you need!.

      Regards Wolfman:)

      • MH

        Hi
Got it to work, but with alot of effort to find a solution. ver 5.2 just worked without any issues. But for anybody who wants to join ver 6 with AD these are the steps :

sudo add-apt-repository “deb http://archive.canonical.com/ precise partner”
        Sudo apt-get update
        sudo apt-get install centrifydc
        sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf
        sudo reboot
        sudo adjoin -f -w domain.name
        Sudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lighdm.conf
        Add greeter-show-manual-login=true
        sudo reboot

Now you can click on login and login with your AD account eg. name@domain.name
The problem is you cant ping netbios names like server, you can only ping fqdn like server.domain.name. when you run dpkg recon resolvconf, this fixes pinging netbios names. The 2nd problem is that the other/login user is not available in the logon screen, you have to edit lightdm to add the other/login name.

Zorin should also focus on business users who wish to replace windows pcs with linux. AD intergration should be built in, which would allow companies to integrate linux in their environment. I wouldnt mind paying the $10 fee per user if I could install zorin that just worked on our network.

I have done many hours of research to find a Free OS to use on my new build, and after seeing Zorin both first hand and vids, i have decided to go with Zorin, and to Donate, because this is a great OS and i hope they continue to improve upon it and make it more reliable.

Not mentioned in the announcement is that OS 6 does not work on a machine with a 32 bit architecture that does not support pae. This is apparently due to the fact that Ubuntu 12.04 doesn’t provide a direct upgrade for non-pae computers but requires the user to install 11.10 and upgrade.

This is an important deficiency – I’d guess there are a goodly number of users who’d like to get away from Unity but have older machines and hence can’t use Zorin 6. Certainly this’ll be the case in non-first-world countries.

For example, I’ve got two computers which are about 8 years old but have plenty of memory, 2GB, and good sized hard drives but can’t install Zorin OS 6.

    • Wolfman

      Hi Edward,

if you burnt a DVD; did you do so at the slowest speed, if you didn’t, you will have read/write errors on the disk, with 2GB RAM, Zorin OS should install no problem!!.

      Regards Wolfman:)

      • edward

        Wolfman,

I’m afraid you’re dealing with a different issue. pae support has nothing to do with the DVD: Zorin 6 won’t install in VirtualBox on a machine without it either. VirtualBox uses the .iso. And, yes, I did check the md5sum. Actually, I checked with the Zorin development people too. Here’s what I got in response to my question: “Unfortunately it seems that Zorin OS will not support non-PAE compatible hardware.”

Zorin made a decision not to enable pae support, presumably because of resource constraints, because – as I wrote originally – Ubuntu 12.04 doesn’t provide it directly either. This is a “business decision” which I’d like to have revisited, again because there are lots of computers out there that don’t have this capability so it’s probably a good way to increase market share.

        Edward

P.S. For the record, I’m quite interested in Zorin, am one of the many Unity haters in the Linux community (and loved Ubuntu 10.04), have no problems with a relatively inexpensive pay upgrade, and would be happy to contribute to Zorin’s efforts in some small way if I could run OS 6 on my machines.

        • Wolfman

          Hi Edward,

I stand corrected, I did not know that about the PAE support!!. I hope you can add it manually but I don’t know if it will work in a virtual DE!!.

This is all I have as a comeback for you:

          https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnablingPAE/

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Does Zorin OS 6 Core have a USER GUIDE or is it the same as Ubuntu 12.04??

    • Wolfman

      Hi,

here is a link to a post install guide I made, or you can look at the how-to section:

        Wolfman,
I was looking for a user guide to give out to individuals that know very little about linux, especially Zorin OS 6 Core(LTS) Version. Ubuntu & Linux Mint both have a link to their user guide. I was wondering if Zorin had one also. I do thank you for the install guide, it will be very helpful. I am now a Zorin user…it is exactly what I have been looking for.
        Thx, maxweis1

I have accidentally crushed the Zorin desktop by uninstalling AWN. I tried linux in recovery mode but no luck. Could someone help me?

    • Wolfman

      Hi George,

if you can get to the login window, change your session by clicking on the cogwheel to “Classic Mode”, once logged in, you can re-install AWN.

      Regards Wolfman:)

What do I need to do so that my firewall turns on right after I log in with my password? Now, right after I put in my password to log in, I have to, again, put in my password to start my firewall. Also, in both of my admin accounts (I have both OS6 & OS 5.2), I can get the firestarter firewalls to work, but I can’t get GUFW to work. The opposite is the case in my user accounts. Please let me know what I need to do to get my firestarter firewalls to work in my user accounts? Thanks and thanks a ton for your OSs.

    Hey all,
I have purchased and have been tinkering with V6 for about a week now. It is nice, but I really do prefer 5.2. Seems that 5.2 had more features and was very stable. On boot up, the desktop screen flickers a little first 2 or three inches at the bottom. I figured out how to put icons on the task bar, but now I can’t seem to remove an icon from the task bar. I have upgraded most everything, ie, LibreOffice, Java, added Clamtk, and maybe a couple more things. Oh yeah changed my desktop background. My main problem, is removing those icons from the task bar. The programs have been removed with the synaptics package manager. It didn’t take the icon though.
I have been using Linux for only a short time compared to Windows. And I do believe that ZORIN is the best one I have worked with as far as ease of use and stability. Compared to Windows, the speed of Zorin just blows windows away. I haven’t used them all, but I have tried Mandriva, Mageia, Mint, Ubuntu and one other. Mandriva was my first, but they went bankrupt. Zorin has a lifetime customer here.
I am using Zorin most of the time now, even though 2 of 3 are dual boot. I take either of my laptops to college and some people have asked me jokingly, “what is that”. I tell them all about Zorin. I may have sold one or two copies for you already.
Oh there is one other problem that I have found. You know how in 5.2 you could download themes from the internet. I don’t know how to do that in V6 either. I have searched multiple screens and can’t sem to find any reference to that. I have V6 on my notebook, but I will probably keep 5.2 on my desktop and laptop until these **MINOR** issues are resolved.

I’m hoping this can be answered. I have a desktop that runs windows xp. I have tried zorin os core 5.2 live cd(never installed just testing) and loved it, so I decided to try Zorin os 6 core and Zorin os 6 lite(both on live cd.) Ok the problem is that Zorin os 6 core(live cd) is EXTREMELY slow, and the screen constantly flickers. What I want to know is, if I install Zorin OS 6 Core, will it still flicker? **It does not do this with Zorin os 5.2 core or Zorin os 6 lite**

ubuntuone-syncdeamon are running, extremly slowing down systemplease kill ubuntuone-syncdeamonubuntuone-syncdeamon eats up my cpu more than 50%this is worst than VIRUS …please kill it… update thisit’s serious problem….

If you don’t use Ubuntu One (Canonical’s cloud service), you can just get rid of the entire suite by typing the following into the Terminal:sudo apt-get purge ubuntuone-client

I tried Zorin free & I loved it being a Linx newbie, just had to have Ultimate, it was a good investment from my point of view. Only downside for me was the games, but then I am 63yrs old. I have Zorin alongside Windows XP & I have been trying to install my wireless internet on XP, I follow all the instructions with no success yet Zorin automatically installs it prior to the installation beginning, this is a +++. Want to try Linux? Not sure if it is a good move? Zorin is the answer! I have tried Ubuntu & Mint both of which I like but Zorin is the standout for me.

  • shivam

Hats off to the Zorin Team. You have done a fantastic job. I have been using Ubuntu exclusively on my laptop since 2006 and I have converted many of my virus stricken friends’ and relatives’ from Windows to Ubuntu. While many loved it, some couldn’t simply like the UI as they were accustomed to Windows UI. A few days back the same scenario reoccurred where one of my relative’s PC got badly infected with virus/es. I gave him a live ubuntu cd to try it out and get accustomed to it, but he was finding it difficult being a novice computer user. Then I found Zorin, downloaded it and installed on his PC and lo he is loving it and even I am considering to install it as my default OS. Well done and keep going, the future is waiting for you. All the best.

Hi. Just installed ZOrin 6.1 Ultimate (64 Bit) to dual boot with Win7 on my Laptop (Asus model K45VD-MSR1-V). I restarted my laptop, and no option to chose OS appeared, it goes straight to Win7. I’m not that computer literate so didn’t atempto to go into the BIOS to avoid messing up things. Any suggestions?

  • Mark Stuckless

If trying Zorin out under Virtualbox, be sure to enable pae under settings–> system–> processor and extended features or in my experience it will not start.
