Well, I would be curious to know if the same security issues that face Windows users using high-powered graphics cards also face GNU/Linux drivers - another reason NOT to use proprietary drivers.
When the first GPU's arrived with the same level of processing power as a CPU, there were reports of Russian malware being able to use such devices to spread there nasties - something to think about and also the usual warnings given by most GNU/Linux distributions - once you go down this route there is no guarantees of security - you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK!
