Reinstall Zorin (from the inside)

Hello,

I've got some strainge problems with Zorin Ultimate, One of the problems is that I cannot do any updates.

So I wanted to reinstall and start from scratch.

First, I've tried to reinstall from USB-stick, but got "casper/vmlinuz" errors that i couldn't solve. Then I've download Zorin OS 12.1 Core and burned it on DVD.

I've tried to install that also after booting from that DVD. One time, the installation failed, but since than after rebooting from DVD, I've got the same errors (casper/vmlinuz)".

So I still work with a cracky OS 12.1 Ultimate that cannot update anymore.

Is there a possibility to reinstall from Zorin OS (so not from USB-stick of not from DVD) ??

I am not aware you can (unlike WidowsNT). Have you got synaptic package manager installed?

Yes, I've got Synaptic Package manager.

Synaptic gives an error (four packages multiple errors. One of them is 4 damaged packages and when I reload: "Not all package-source-lists could get received" (or something like that, exact message is in dutch).

Worst error is that i've got the message Casper/VMLINUZ when I boot from DVD. If that is solved, I could do a reinstall from DVD

The common answer is a 'bad burn' :

http://askubuntu.com/questions/125495/c ... off-the-cd

1. Have you ever cleaned your optical drive with one of these?

https://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/?product=a ... ner+(59146)

2. Only use quality DVD brand: Verbatim, Imation, Sony, TDK

3. Check the hash of the downloaded image:

https://zorinos.com/help/install-zorin- ... r-download

4. If using Windows to burn Only use imgburn from here:

https://ninite.com

If using Brasero on Zorin/other GNU/Linux then launch the Brasero first: Never right click an iso and select 'Open with...' unless you like to make coasters for your mug of coffee to sit on!

5. Burn at slowest speed your burner supports.

The problem is solved.

Not by another DVD but by again booting from bootable USB-stick. This time it worked.

Problem was: Didn't boot from USB-stick.

Normally you can set bootorder in CMOS setup. My Lenovo Thinkpad E420s you can see it in CMOS but cannot change it.

To change the boot-order, you have to put in de bootable USB-stick and then hold down F12 (this means Fn-F12) and then boot

So now everything seems to work (also updating) and I've did the update to 12.1-version (but got to find out, how I can get that confirmd :P )

Thank you all.
