Hi, I hope someone out there can help. I'm a newcomer to Zorin having given up on XP and I dont like Win8. I installed Zorin OS6 LTS on my Acer laptop TravelMate2420 with an Intel Celeron M processor. It worked really well and I liked it. I liked it so much that I decided to upgrade to OS9. I have installed it from a USB bootable stick and it works. The issue I have is at shut down, I select the power off and the machine starts to shut down and then 'hangs' on the blue Zorin screen and the 'Z' logo fades and then nothing happens, it just sits there. I have to power it down with the power button on the laptop. It didnt do this with OS6, can any one help me? All help gratefully received, and please be gentle with the jargon, I'm Zorin/Linux/Ubuntu virgin :D

Hi, have you just recently installed? Have you done a full post-install?:

Hi, I downloaded a new version of OS9 and did a full install of it (ie I removed the old OS at the time of the install) and alos checked the 'install updates' box, once installed it asked me about the Grub menu, so I clicked to change it to the developers version (I think!) It was then when I shut it down (to do a restart) that in hung up o the blue screen. I restarted it and went to the software updater and downloaded the latest updates. And it still hangs at stutdown. I think the issue may lie with the grub menu as I have seen similar posts on other forums. All help gratefully recieved :-)

Hi, take a look here:

and here:

Can you also run Synaptic Package Manager (Menu | System Tools | Administration) and see if there are any broken packages that need fixing:

Hi, Many thanks. I have tried all of the things suggested on the forum you posted. Playing about with the grub etc and nothing seems to work. i have put the grub back to how it was. The only thing i havent tried that has been posted as 'cure' is this;

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 hangs on shutdown on HP laptop.

"I just ran a command to put dnscrypt-proxy into complain mode and everything is back to normal."

Could you be a bit more specific, please Garchomps? I have the same problem with my HP laptop...

Can you help and expand what this means and how I can do it?

Thank you

Hi Swarfendor437, thanks for your input. I still can't get it to work, so much so that I've put OS6 back on my machine and all is well again. It is also running a lot faster. i wonder if OS9 is maybe a bit 'heavy' for my 2005 vintage laptop? :) Anyway, thanks for your help in my adventures in Ubuntu.

Hi, that could well be the case - you may also want to consider:
