Intel ME etc. affects on bootup time

Whilst researching the Intel ME issue Online, I cames across something I found interesting.

It was an US specialist Linux PC manufacturer Purism.

A look at their website is interesting as they, amongst others, were ahead of the game in terms of concern about Intel ME, seemingly.

In fact they have truly lobotomised Intel ME and other features on their machines and OS, whilst maintaining PC performance and security.

The surprise was the many hundreds of % improvement in boot up time to just 10 seconds - what is Intel/the PC/other doing for the rest of the time, I wonder?

My Zorin12 laptp's bootup time is about 90 secs - but I have never timed it exactly - certainly not 10 seconds!!

one of the world’s largest PC companies is also offering customers the option of buying a computer with Intel Management Engine disabled.
at least three Dell computers can be configured with an “Intel vPro™ – ME Inoperable, Custom Order” option, although you’ll have to pay a little extra for those configurations.

Which could also brick your machine! Apparently they made an error offering that option on three systems - see the below article - hot off the press!:

Perhaps, I gave the wrong impression. I thought lobotomising still leaves part of the brain working, so an apt metaphor, I thought.

Apparently, Purism did not delete Intel ME - but reduced the number of features running (If I read their article correctly).

They were very concerned not to affect the running reliabilty of their PCs. Somewhere in the website there is a posting of the CEO which identifies some of the features deactivated. It is not definitive, so just what they did is part of their "know how" seemingly.

Apparently the intention was it to be available to Corporate Customers and not individuals. ;) :D
