Yeah the splash screen issue with Nvidia drivers occurs with any distribution based on Ubuntu as far as I've seen (Mint, Zorin, Pinguy etc). Bit of a pain but Linux Mint ended up removing it entirely! It's a Nvidia based issue I believe.

There is a fix for the lost Plymouth screen for 11.04 here:

I have used these fixes of both 10.10 and 11.04 respectively and they work. Using it right now on Zorin OS 5.
But use at your own risk.
