You must install the compiz effects.
Open terminal and write
Code:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-plugins-extra

Then go to dash to open "ccm".
Go to windows effects or effects - I do not remember exactly where - so as to choose the options for closing/minimizing/maximising windows, and alter them according to your preferences.
The specific effect you want is called "leaf-spread".

Maybe this guide will help you http://wiki.compiz.org/

You open ccm, you go to "effects", you enable "animations" by ticking the box next to it and then you click on "animations" so as to open the option tabs.

You will see that each tab is named "close animation", "open animation", "maximize animation" etc. For each tab you choose from the list below which animation you like.

Yes, but there is no leaf-spread for some reason

Swarf he is not using zorin. He is using ubuntu 12.04 and he just likes the "leaf spread" animation (which is default in zorin 5) when closing a window.

Apparently, even if he has installed compizconfig settings manager plus the extras, there is no option in animations for leaf spread...

I will look in my zorin laptop to see what packages are installed for compiz...

If you didn't directly install a KDE version of Ubuntu and did it as an afterthought, you might want to install the package "kde-full" if it isn't already installed!!.
