Swarf is not alone...I will not touch that POS either.

In other, related news:
"Opera has called it a day. After almost two decades in the browser business, Opera has officially quit. "

Opera will now just be a re-branded version of...Chrome=> browser of choice for (omitted).

That justifies my paranoia!

Have you ever noticed that for every Google App there is their clause which states - "we do not store personal information" - they don't have to - your IP address is all they need+ browsing habits+ whether you looked at Area51+ on Google Earth+ gathering Exif data on your Picasa+... Need I go on?

On the one hand, I am in total agreement about the user control (and as one who adheres to libertarian principles, the argument "if you aren't doing anything wrong, you don't have anything to worry about" is unacceptable).

But on the other, having had to use "alternatives" for a lot of my life on Linux, having the new "biggest kid on the block" readily installed in my system is kind of refreshing. I enjoy talking to IE people and saying "what? You don't run Chrome?" and getting snobby like IE5 people used to get while I used Mozilla. Oh, sure, Chrome is a little too much like the new IE, and it's got pop ups and security vulnerabilities, tries to own every identity you have online and after a while it runs really slow and overheats my system. But that's the price of being #1. Most days I am willing to make that trade off.

And I have Midori anyway, in case I change my mind.

The day when I will worry, is when >> anyone << can spy on you from the sky.

. The technology has been around for 20 years or so. I can remember watching the Serbs scratching their ____ from Germany.

The argument still remains:

So even if you are 'innocently' doing research in the field of medicine, for example, into Herpes - your cards are marked - hung, drawn and quartered with no trial!

After what they've done with Reader, I am convinced Google wants more than just our user data. They are out for full control of the internet. I've dumped whatever Google products I can, including Chrome and Gmail. The rest that I've become dependent on are just a matter of time before I drop them.

I find your paranoia well justified. My brand new android business phone which has never seen facebook or google search, however I logged into play store for an app, now has ALL my facebook contacts "automatically" in my contact list. Even paranoid people have REAL enemies. It wasnt even my facebook email id.

Hi Datek1,

they already are but just don't tell us, Drone's; Satellite's and internet/phone tapping are not that uncommon, the only time we have to worry is when the vehicles with the guys in the black masks turn up outside our door lol!!!.
