Hi,

it will be a while yet David!.

I am trying Ubuntu 14.04 and it still has little bugs, one like the Nvidia HDMI soundcard not being found despite having the latest Nvidia drivers (ver 331) installed!. It works fine on my ATI rig though!. (The HDMI card)

WM I am trying out 14.04 as well.
As you said it still has a little bugs. Overall is very nice though.
My big question is the following.
Up to ubuntu 13.04 (Zorin 7) my brightness keys were working just fine (Fn+F4 and Fn+F5).

From ubuntu 13.10 (Zorin8) and now ubuntu 14.04 (i.e. from kernels 3.11 and 3.13) the brightness keys do not work!
I can increase/decrease the brightness from the settings menu, but the keys are dead.
What do kernels 3.2, 3.5 and 3.8 have that make the brightness keys work (that is not included in kernels 3.11 and 3.13)... ? ? ? ? ?
I have made a bug report here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1280394

There is a duplicate here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1229591

Any thoughts ...? How can isolate the culprit by running a live USB of ubuntu 12.04...?

Hi MV,

I don't know as I didn't bother to check the brightness controls (or any other for that matter) as at the time I was only concerned about the HDMI sound output on my ATI rig (Packard Bell laptop).

I will get back to you later on that one!. :D

@David,

I am using Gnome 3 as I tried Gnome classic but it got on my nerves!. I don't like Unity either!.

@MV,

all the buttons work on my laptop!.

Am I the only one who likes unity...? :P
Maybe I just got used to it... :)

WM, In my office laptop, all buttons work OK.
In my home laptop, while the brightness keys were working just fine with 12.04, 12.10 and 13.04, they do not work with 13.10 and 14.04...

I haven't figured out yet why...

Hi MV,

sorry but I don't have an answer for you as I only have my laptop and cannot comment on other models!.

Did you try forcing an update as it may simply be a case of missing dependencies?. Did you have the network connected when you installed?:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

Restart after running the command!. :D
