AWN ? what is AWN ?

As a newbie to Zorin and reading here on the forum i have seen AWN ..this is new to me .. as an ex windows user . can anyone explain what AWN is ?
My guess is that it is some kind of window manager but i would appreciate any explanation or pointer

AWN stands for Avant Window Navigator - it is the panel that sits at the bottom of the screen (equivalent to Taskbar in Windoze).
