CETA ... the sequel to TTIP

Just thought I would share with you the content of an email I received from War on Want today:

"Dear Friend,

EU-Camada trade deal CETA (the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) is due to be signed this autumn - by early 2017 MEPs could be voting on CETA in the European Parliament. We have to make sure that CETA doesn't get through.

[Book your free ticket for Killing Toxic Trade Deals: CETA!]

Join us for a free event on CETA with a line-up of outstanding speakers who have all campaigned against this toxic trade deal. Maude Barlow, Chair of the Council of Canadians, will be joined by leader of the Green Party, Natalie Bennett, Nick Crook Head of International Department at UNISON, and War on Want Executive Director John Hilary to help you understand what CETA is and why we must defeat it.

We believe this is such an important and timely event that we wanted to make sure all our supporters around the country have a chance to attend.

Much like its 'evil twin' deal TTIP, CETA was negotiated in secret and is both by and for big business.

Through CETA, corporations will be able to destroy our most treasured social, health and environmental protections, enforce the locked-in privatisation of our public services, and sue our governments for lost profits in an ISDS 'corporate court' system. And we know that more than 80% of US corporations operating in Europe have offices in Canada - this means that CETA will open the door to US big business suing the governments of Europe, just like TTIP.

If you're concerned about TTIP, you need to be concerned at CETA too. We can and must stop this toxic trade deal.

Best wishes,

Mark Dearn

Senior Trade Campaigner,
War on Want"
