If you are an alien species and plan on visiting Earth in person, please don't, its dangerous here lol. It seems like every year there is a new disease outbreak. I swear this Earth is trying to take us out of the equation.

There was a time when Demons and Spirits were to blame for illness.
I have heard plenty of claims of Viruses from Venus- claiming aliens are to blame in modern times.

Virus's are like everything else on this planet, they evolve, they mutate. The only difference is, they do it faster, and are sometimes deadlier. I say sometimes, because humans have this nack to destroy everything we touch, we are raping the planet you know.

Just a few years ago we had the worst influenza virus that I can recall. Infact, the virus was so bad and widespread, that the CDC made a statement themselves, saying that it was much worse then they had predicted. Flue shots were completely ineffective against it. And the CDC was warning everybody to stay in their homes and don't go out unless absolutely necessary. They recommended wearing surgical masks, just like people in Asia often do.

We've had West Nile Virus, we've had Ebolla virus, we've had SARS virus, we've had the Ecoli outbreaks, the list just goes on and on. And scientists are discovering new virus's everyday! The truth is, we live in a world where we have far too many people, and we cram everybody into tight spaces called SCHOOL and WORK. I consider myself lucky, because during the winter time, I go on winter break and stay home, thank God!

I won't lie though, I did have the common cold a couple of weeks ago, but the common cold is a farcry from full on influenza virus where you could end up dead without the proper medicine or vaccination treatments. Those who don't take flue shots are putting themselves in further risk, especially if they go to school or work. But at the end of the day, you can minimize your risk by washing your hands often. And if were in a epidemic outbreak, wear a dam mask!

I don't give a dam if it makes you look weird, goofy, whatever. If a serious virus or disease is going around, you wear that mask. In countries like China, Japan, Vietnam, they wear them all the time down there so that they don't get sick. America is too worried about image I tell ya. And, if you don't have to go to school or work, just freaking stay home! I don't want you to get the virus, and I don't want you passing it around to other's either, be responsible please.

It gets really interesting, actually.
Viruses are part of us. Our DNA. Literally...

Tens to hundreds of thousands of years ago to even 100 million years ago, viruses that invaded pregnant mothers had an odd result.
A retrovirus replicates by injecting a code into a cell that instructs the cell to manufacture more copies of the virus. In some few cases above, however, the DNA or RNA was incorporated into our own genes.
Those viruses are technically gone- there is no virus Shell... Yet, the DNA is replicated within our own. These instructions often have an effect with the Zygote Stage of human development before the human DNA overwhelms it. Some of these effects are actually beneficial to the developing fetus.
Some are inert. And some are suspected to be the eventual cause of Alzheimer's.

Microbial induced illnesses have been around since the dawn of complex life. It will outlast us, to some degree, until the Earth is reduced to a smoldering cinder in the wake of our Suns expansion to a Red Giant.
Our multi-cellular bodies are like communal Colonies. Whole Worlds of their own populated by trillions of organisms all working together. In stark contrast to how poorly we do it. Some rebels (cancer) arise, but over-all, the microbiological world is far more efficient and cooperative then ours is.
Probably due to them lacking brains. You know...

Introduction- in small bits- to microbes will increase Immune-strength. It is healthier to have some exposure than to have none. It is how we build antibodies.
But, get exposed to something that is more adept than our antibodies can react to swiftly- and you get sick. Sometimes, permanently.
HIV. Ebola. etc...
Playing a game of Germ-roulette... Hand sanitizer or no?
Can hand sanitizer prevent HIV? Heh that is a funny one. Water kills it. HIV is incredibly weak, like a soap bubble. Outside of a body with the right conditions, it quickly dies and is inert. Much like an astronaut without a spacesuit in space.
Ebola on the other hand, is more like an astronaut with a very Good Space Suit. So is Influenza and the Cold. Rugged hardy protein shells that carry them from world to world.
Hand sanitizer will kill the flu on your hands and the cold too.
But it will not kill ebola on your hands.

Great post! I love learning new things!

You are right, the human body is an ecosystem biome in itself. We have tons of microscopic life forms that live symbolically within us. And I heard that medical scientists have yet discovered a symbiotic oregan inside our bodies that previously was not discovered. I forget what its called but I think they said it was located in our gut somewhere.

When we think about how amazing it is about how vast the universe is, and how there are planets, moons, stars, suns, astroids, nebula's, black holes, all kinds of things contained in the universe. What is equally awesome, is we have a universe within us. And everything in the universe follows the mathematical laws, so cool.

One of my offspring had Herpes virus in her mouth and it had to go its own accord. The dentist explained that Herpes virus was more virulent than HIV. HIV dies within 30 seconds of leaving the body. Herpes virus can last up to 2 months on door handles. And hand sanitizers have their own dangers: https://www.thestreet.com/markets/5-hid ... s-12966410

Agreed. Sanitizers can be helpful when used sparingly on rare occasions, but constant use is a problem.
Antibiotic use is the same way. Used properly, it can help. used improperly, it makes things worse.
I, for one, welcome our new Bacteriophage overlords...
As an alternative to using a chemical medication, bacteriophages can be modified to fight bacterial infections. The bacteriophage virus is harmless to us, but deadly deadly hungry to the bacteria it eats. Unlike antibiotic medicines, which carpet bomb your system killing bacteria indiscriminately (even the good bacteria you need), bacteriophages are like guided missiles, attacking ONLY the bacteria they are salivating over.

Polio is like that, too. Many different variations in Virus Structure. The differences are amazing.

EDIT: I had to edit out a word commonly known as medication and replace it with "chemical medication" in order to get the software to not censor it. :|

This is an interesting image I found on line and made into a tactile diagram for low-vision students.

Odd. I tried touching it to see how tactile it was and it just felt like a smooth flat screen. Are you sure you posted the right one?

Ha Ha! You need swell paper to print on then send it through a fuser unit to raise the image!

Just in case you were wondering what a zyfuser unit is (or P.I.A.F. competitor - Picture In A Flash). Basically a 1 Kw bar heater with fans. The chemically treated paper means that anything black gets sucked up to create the tactile image. ;)
