team jitsi for conference calls

Just discovered that there is now team conferencing app - only downside is that it only currently works with Chrome or Chromium - using the latter with all security sorted in backend.

You don't have to install jitsi on the machine to use it just go to the website link and create your own 'room'. You can add a password so that only those members with the password can enter.

Hey Swarf. I've been looking at Jitsi. Was going to download whatever on my laptop because of it needing a server. Watched in part instructions from youtube. But I just saw this line, "You don't have to install jitsi on the machine to use it just go to the website link and create your own 'room'." Have you done this? Because some friends of mine have a Happy Hour VC every week, and google zoom meet stops after 40 minutes I think. Would like to try Jitsi.

Hi, I have discovered because it is E2E that it is sometimes being used for improper behaviour - so when you do, make sure you set your room up with a password. All you need is (fingers down throat) Chrome or Chromium for it to work correctly and there is no limit to number of users.

Just go to this web address: https://meet.jit.si/

You then add your meeting name after the last slash or rather put that in the 'try it now' box, and it will add whatever you call it after the last forward slash. You then click on the circle in the middle of the three icons on the right and select add password:

First port of call:

Add the password so only people with the password can access the room - you wouldn't want nefarious gate crashers would you?:

You can also get the app for jitsi meet on Android, F-Droid and App Store.

The third icon on the left side of the screen is where you launch the 'chat window' and identify yourself first then that shows up on the right. Sharing desktop crashes the browser! Sometimes there can be two of you on relaunch of the saved address! But you can kick your own imposter out of the room. ;) :D

You mentioned google zoom - by that do you mean two separate entities? Google Duo and Zoom? Don't touch Zoom with a barge pole!

UPDATE 21.04.2020

jitsi meet now working well in Firefox! Ditch Chrome and Chromium! Yay! :D

Just to add, Orca can read the chat window - Firefox is better than Chrome when it comes to screen reader compatibility like NV Access (formerly NVDA) for Windows. :D

Oh dear - Jitsi is turning into a Google puppet - after the latest Firefox updated Jitsi reported that it does not support Firefox - solution? Install User-Switcher and Manager extension to Firefox! ;) :D

Update - using the User switcher manager is ok for meetings but won't work for sharing desktop - solution - use Vivaldi which uses Chrome extensions. :D

Would that work with Brave, Iridium, Opera or Ungoogled Chromium too, I wonder? I like Vivaldi but it's a bit clunky compared to other Blink browsers.

I have found the current Vivaldi on Feren OS to be very fast. I have it on ZorinOS too, mainly for jitsi - will be joining the City where I live Linux User Group who have a dedicated Jitsi server for the purpose! ;) :D
