[UPDATE!] Windows 10 dual boot - will it or won't it ...

Well in case you are wondering why my presence has been reduced (should not have got hooked on Gameloft!) I have been testing Windows 10 insider preview.

I decided I would shrink the C:\ drive to allow room for MakuluLinux. No problem - however what I noticed is that what Windows does now is:

Partition 1 - NTFS - System [Files] (350 Mb) - [Primary Partition]
Partition 2 - NTFS - C:\ [Primary Partition]
Partition 3 - NTFS - System Restore/Bootloader Repair (692 Mb) [Primary Partition]

The drive is a 200 Gb WD drive from a recycled rig. What happens after shrinking is Partition 3 sits at the end of the drive with 1 Gb unallocated space.

Next, I created an 'Extended Partition' - inside of this I created:

/boot - 512 mb - this is where you put GRUB
/ - ext4 'root' directory for where the system will be put (30 Gb)
/home - the difference between what is left at the end:
linux-swap - 4 Gb

And it now works as I downloaded MakuluLinux Aero 10 Beta - much better install experience doing it this way!

Here is a graphic to show you the layout:

I had already installed EasyBCD in Windows 10 and that is working flawlessly too - even after I had messed up Windows 10 insider install and managed to recover origianl partition at end to where it should be.

So yes you can install GNU/Linux alongside Windows 10 - it can be done! :D
