with 10 Gb SSD split between 3Gb and 7Gb respectively.

Anyone who has or had one of these will remember how good it was that XP Home was on there until the machine crashed because the OS was on the 3 Gb partition and not possible to install on the bigger one - enter the Penguin!

At this point be sure to always select the 'something else' method so you can stipulate how you want the partitions formatted - in the case of this machine we will be creating 3 Primary partitions and one swap area.

1. Wipe all partitions and in the first small partition create a 512 Mb '/boot' partition, formatted to 'ext2'

2. Next create '/home' on the space left, also format to 'ext2'

3. Next at the END of the larger partition of the SSD, create a 1024 swap area

4. Whatever is left, create '/' formatted to ext2.

5. Ensure GRUB is set to be written to the first 'phison' partition - sda.

Now the best distros that can fit on there are Lubuntu 14.04.2, Elementary OS - I haven't had time to try Zorin OS and I am recycling them for the benefit of others so thought I had better share my formatting experiences with you before I forgot! :D
