Zorin 9 install help

I posted this to the Boot Repair group at Source Forge a few days ago and was hoping while waiting someone here might be able to assist me. This was my reply to their original response that they are too busy to assist unless a donation is made.

1. (I replied that I mad a contribution for their effort)
2. My problem was zorin 9 (32 bit) would not boot after installation unless I forced it in Bios (select boot from USB). I selected to install alongside win 8.1 and followed instruction from the internet regarding size for HD partition. I removed the 32b version and loaded the 64b ver. It still would not boot so I ran this as instructed on How-to Geek:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair
boot-repair
The result of this was the computer said it was trying to boot in Legacy.......... still would not boot Zorin

so I got the boot repair disk from SourceForge and ran that.

4. After running the repair the computer boots to a grub prompt. I explained some of the message in the original help request i.e.(GNU Grub page version 2.02
> then goes onto say Minimal Bash like line editing is permitted. It acts the same if UEFI is on or off)
I can type "exit" and get windows to boot from the grubpage but don't know what else to do.

Sounds to me like windows 8.1 is installed in UEFI mode and Zorin OS 9 is installed in BIOS mode (non UEFI).

Have you tried downloading and running 'Rufus' on Windows to create a UEFI version of Zorin OS 9 USB Installer, to install alongside Windows 8.1?
I don't think Rufus even installs, just run the Rufus.exe from memory and select the UEFI option amongst the variables and try that, remember to choose UEFI mode when starting the USB install process.

Bit rusty here but from memory I create a 'efi' or 'efi-boot' partition (sda1) 350MB, for the efi boot loader. A /home and or root (sda2) or how ever you like that and swap (swap) at the end. Your choice but there should be an option for efi boot when your partitioning etc.

My thoughts on this anyway.

You also need to:

Turn off 'speed boot' in BIOS and on hidden 'Power Settings' in Control Panel, turn off 'sleep mode' - this is to make Windows 8 (and 10) boot up quicker after turning off the computer (and also prevents you from booting from other OS's!)
