os 12.3 will not boot after update

I am having a problem with 12.3 not booting after update.
Apparently a root problem.
I reinstalled and it happened again.

from the records you are communtiy member since 2011. is still the Acer 522 involved.
please give actual details of your current machine - running 32/64 bits - dual boots

Also please advise if an update from earlier version of Zorin, clean install, automatic install - last not advisable as it could be a '/boot' issue? ;) :D

This is MSI 785GTM-E45, AMD Phenom X4 , 4gb ram. 240gb PNY SSD.
I do clean installs that run fine. Then it will not boot after update by ethernet connection. Fail to open ROOT, as far as I can tell.
Sometimes it will run for months in between.
The SSD tests okay using p-magic on USB stick boot.

I have only Zorin on the machine. I have had V12 on it for about a year, so I can get used to that version.
I use Zorin 9 lts on my main machine and like it better, but know that it will end.

If you are installing to an SSD you should format the partitions to Ext2 to avoid reducing the life of the SSD. You will also need to use TRIM - which windows does automatically:

I will look at those. Are you sure you mean ext2, not ext4?
I got a boot to work and ran dpkg and got it running, don't know why it was failing before.
There had been a lot of error-110

reading it all out I would buy a fresh cheap SSD and your issues will be gone

error 110 is just a connection timed out message

When the first little netbooks came out (eeepc, msi wind etc) you will have noticed those models with SSD's in them had a FAT32 version of Windows (usually XP Home) and as such are not 'journaling' when the OS is running. Ext3 and Ext4 are journaling systems which mean you will be using more read/writes than if using Ext2 - You also need to undertake TRIM of an SSD - probably one of the reasons I never migrated to SSD in GNU/Linux. Windows automatically TRIMs. ;) :D
