Have you tried booting in live mode first? Assuming that it came with Windows 10 you will also need to make some preliminary changes:
A. Boot into windows and check that Power Options that are hidden are shown and change power settings of hard drive to never go to sleep whether on Battery or mains - this will prevent even booting into live mode.
B. Check your partitions of the installed drive using Windows Disk Management - if an SSD drive then you can have as many primary partitions as you want - if a platter drive (traditional HDD) then you will be limited to 4 Primary Partitions which manufacturers tend to use up with Factory Restore, Recovery Media Partitions, and other partitions.
Then boot into BIOS and:
1. Disable Fast Boot in the BIOS
2. Disable Windows Boot Manager (if exists) in the BIOS
3. Enable EFI/Legacy boot mode to boot of your installation media if dual or disable EFI/Secure boot before attempting to boot off install media.

If you still can't get it to work, sell your XPS and get one of these:
