Hello,

I have tried going into gparted and selecting the main directory to install to, but it says it is missing the Root.
Hmmm... if there is no root,,, how did the previous version of linux work?

Anyway, I just need instructions on how to install Zorin over the top of LinuxMint.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If you have tried installing without creating separate partitions for root ('/') homw ('/home') and swap (swap file), Zorin will need to be told which partition to be marked as '/'. Please check out my veoh.com video section - the link is in my sig(nature) - then look at the instructional video on installing Zorin OS4 64-bit alongside XP and 7 - Part 1 - not got round to uploading the other parts previously on YouTube yet - will wait when I have got my new machine up and running with decent video processing speed! Also check out the [STICKY] in How-to and Tutorials and Installation sections of the forum. The principles still apply! Good Luck!

Sorry, but your info does not help me. The video did not even go into gparted. That is what I need help with.
I have Win7 installed and LinuxMint along side it. I am not having very much luck with Mint, so I want to
replace it with this distro. But I need to know how to do this within the gparted program within installation.

Hi pinstripe,

what Swarf is trying to say is that you should create your partitions prior to the install, please take a look at this link which may help you further.

Basically, create 3 partitions:

root (/ is the mount point) of about 15 - 20 GB
swap which should be equal or double your RAM and it has no mount point
home which can be any size but I would say no less than 30 GB (/home is the mount point)

Well, it really doesn't matter... because I can't even get this OS to install on a blank hard drive! The thing says my hard drive is likely bad and cannot install. Then it said it would report this to the programmers and that crashed, as well! Funny, because this happened on my main computer, too.

I'm giving up on linux. It doesn't matter what flavor I install and run... they all have way too many issues and I find myself wasting hours on end simply working on the operating system rather than accomplishing anything I need to get done. All these years these programmers had to work on Linux OS as a whole and none have figured out how to make it work well. And Zorin programmers can't even figure out how to get this thing to install on all computers! What a joke!

Hi,

did you install using a DVD or did you use a USB stick??, if you burnt a disk, did you burn it at the slowest possible speed, if you didn't; you will get read/write errors!!.
