Now that Zorin is my only OS, When I get my Windows 7 Disk, and go to install it, will windows partition an area of the drive and not disrupt Zorin? Then will Zorin Grub menu Come up and give me a choice to switch between Windows or Zorin or will i have to wipe the drive again, install windows 7 first, then re install Zorin Along Side it to have both boot up options listed in the Grub Menu come up on boot up?

I wouldn't even be bothering with windows but there are still some programs I use for trading that I can't yet get to work on Zorin otherwise
I would Say AMF to Windows!

Wolfy,

When I receive my Windows 7 Disk can't I just change the boot order in Bios to boot from the Dvd Drive to Run windows 7 install?
Wont that install Windows 7 OS and make it available to run and automatically repair or replace the MBR ?

Finally I notice in that youtube video the guy was using https://www.virtualbox.org/

Is virtual box a program that allows you to run windows programs in Zorin?

I have a 32 bit Acer Aspire 5100, I think the virtual box only works for 64 bit, not sure perhaps you can enlighten me on that

if you know.

Thanks

Vinnie

Hi Vinnie,

the chap was only using VB for demonstration purposes, nothing more really, the idea about MBR is that you should have Windows installed first and then a version of Linux, that said, you can recover the MBR with a Windows or Linux CD, or you can use Boot Repair, it is up to you how you do things!!.

Ok so basically when I get my Windows 7 CD i have to Format the Drive Again to remove all Zorin files?

Then Change boot order and Load Windows 7, Then Take my USB Drive after installing

Windows and Insall Zorin again Along Side of it?

Remember I only have Zorin on my Hardrive right now. Vista was wiped off the drive.

I was hoping that now that I have Zorin Working with all the updates and tweaks i could

Just put the Windows Disk in and install Windows 7 and Still Have Zorin.

I would imagine when I go to install Windows it will ask if I want to partition the drive

and probably see that there is an OS on my computer already and ask if I want to keep it or not

but I don't know for sure.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Btw im now gettin a little Yellow Triangle that shows up in my task bar that says,

The Update information is outdated. This may be caused by network problems or by

a repository that is no longer available. Please update manually by clicking on this icon

and then selecting “Check for Update” and check if some of the listed repositories fail.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did what it said above then it says failed to download repository information, check your

internet connection.

My internet connection is fine So I don't know why this little yellow triangle keeps coming

up in my task bar with the same Update Information Message above in the task bar.

Then when I click on the details tab, I get,

W:Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/dists/st ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 173.194.43.32 80]
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

If thats the case I will just re format the Drive while using live boot from my USB Drive, install Windows 7 then re install

Zorin along side it.

That should work right?

If I could get 2 of my most important programs to work on Zorin I wouldn't even bother with windows anymore,

But for the moment I haven't found any info to do that or the info that I have found seems like almost impossible

to do and even after it's done the programs don't fully function in Zorin.

Thanks

Well I just change the boot order to boot from the CD Rom and put my Windows 7 Disk in and

The computer still boots the Grub Menu. Why didn't it choose to boot from The Windows CD

as that is the first selection in the Boot Order?

Do I still have to repair the MBR thingy to get it to boot from the CD in the CD rom?

Hi Vinnie,

when booting the Windows CD, you must press a key on the keyboard (Press any key) and the CD will boot, if you don't press a key, the PC will boot as normal and by-pass the CD!!.

Hi Vinnie,

If your system isn't starting from Windows 7 CD, Wolfman is right - you are either not pressing any key when windows prompts or you haven't change boot sequence correctly. Go to BIOS, load Default Settings and than find boot sequence. In my previous laptop I could choose to hit F12 during start-up and it will open nice menu for me to choose which device I want to use to start. If you don't have that, than just set it as:

1 - CD/DVD rom
2 - Local HDD
3 all the rest (lan, USB, whatever)

Important thing - read the message in bios on right side or under your tables. It will tell you that in order to move around booting sequence you must press F5 or F6. In you case it might be different key. Once you are happy go to "Save & Exit" - don't just exit, otherwise you will be stuck forever with that...

Last thing - as I mentioned to someone else - best option is to copy your personal data, partition disk correctly, install Windows first, Install Zorin afterwards and use GRUB as manager. If you dont want that - I can tell you how to use Virtual Box. I run like this and works like a charm!!!
