Installing Vodafone Wifi to Zorin

Hi all, I am a brand new user of Zorin 5. It was very easy to install the OS but I can't install my vodafone wifi. My computer is not wireless compatable but It should work through the USB anyway, right??? When I plug in the USB it comes up on my desktop, but will not install it shows me this message:

"the file'/media/vodafone-mobile-wifi_1.0.0.3894/setupwifi.exe' is not marked as executible. if this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run"

I already tried to execute it in the properties but it says its a read only file.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Jon.

Thank you for your reply but I noticed this thread after my post and tried this with no luck. It seems like the Zorin os is treating my dongle like an untrusted download. Dont know if it makes a difference but im in Ireland not the UK. Broadband speeds are slower here, but that should not affect the installition process, right???

Hi, first of all, you must not install the .exe file. This is a windows file and is not needed.

Please plug the dongle, wait a minute and see if a new window pops up that asks for your password. If not, open terminal and post back the result of
Code:
lsusb

Just created a guide on how to install latest modeswitch.
Follow it, and then check again if the dongle works.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4077

Please be reminded that the dongle should be plugged-in after the computer has fully booted into the desktop.

This might seem like a silly question but Will my dongle still work on my windows 7 netbook after I do this?

We don't do anything to the dongle itself. We just change the parameters of your linux system so as to correctly recognise it.

Don't worry, your dongle will remain intact.

I downloaded both files I was able to extract the, 2.5 tar.bz2 file but there is a long list of errors when I try to extract the 20121109(1)tar.bz2 file. I downloaded it twice just incase but the same result.

How do you get errors? You just right click the file and select "extract here".
What are the errors you are getting?

THat is exactly what I did, It says
tar: usb-modeswich-data-20121109/usb_modeswich.d/19d2\:1517: cannot open: Invalid arguement

There is a full page of these

I just tried it my self. Downloaded the usb-modeswitch-data-20121109.tar.bz2 file, went in my Downloads folder, right click on it > selected "extract here" and it extracted without any problem creating the file "usb-modeswitch-data-20121109".

I really don't know why you are facing this problem.
Try this.
Before exctracting it, rename it. i.e. change the name from "usb-modeswitch-20121109.tar.bz2" to "zorin.tar.bz2"
Then try to extract it again.

Same result,
I downloaded it through firefox, chrome and internet explorer.
I downloaded it from my windows 7 netbook to my usb key and transfered it to my acer Zorin 5 pc
The usb-modeswitch-1.2.5.tar.bz2 file extracts with no problems, I still get the long list of errors when I try extract the usb-modeswitch-data-20121109.tar.bz2 file.
Do you think I should do a reinstall of Zorin 5??

Try this.
Open ubuntu software center.
In the search box write
7zip
When the application comes up, click "more info".
Press "install" to install 7zip.
Then tick the box right under that says "non free rar module for 7zip" and click "apply changes" to install that too.

Then go again at your downloads folder and try to extract the usb-modeswitch-data-20121109.tar.bz2 file.

Also try via terminal: (replace with your username)
Code:
cd /home/your-username/Downloads
sudo tar xvjf usb-modeswitch-data-20121109.tar.bz2

Do you get the same errors?

7zip is already installed,

I transfered the downloaded files to the download folder ant then tried to extract. When i extracted the usb-modeswitch-1.2.5.tar.bz2 file a folder appeared beside it with 14 items in it. then when i extracted the usb-modeswitch-data-20121109.tar.bz2 file (renamed to 2.5.tar.bz2) a folder popped up with 6 items in it.

I opened the terminal and typed
sudo apt-get install libusb-dev then entered my password and it now reads "unable to locate package libusb-dev"

Are you connected to the internet (either via wifi or wired)?

Have you fully updated your system? Get internet connection, open terminal and run:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
