Hi,

did you update per the link I posted earlier and have you tried anything else like booting in safe graphics mode??.

Paste this command in a terminal so we can find out what hardware you have:

sudo lshw

Just for the graphics card:

sudo lshw -C display

And you should end up with something like this:

wolfman@fred:~$ sudo lshw -C display
[sudo] password for wolfman:
*-display
description: VGA compatible controller
product: GF108 [GeForce GT 430]
vendor: NVIDIA Corporation

clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
configuration: driver=nvidia latency=0

wolfman@fred:~$

Hope it helps.

This is what came back from

description: VGA compatible controller

vendor: VIA Technologies, Inc.
physical id: 0
bus info: pci@0000:01:00.0

configuration: latency=32 mingnt=2
resources: memory:a0000000-bfffffff memory:c9000000-c9ffffff

So it's a VIA Technologies graphics card?

Does that help?

Hi,

you can try running "DPKG" per this guide and see if it helps solve the problem:

Let us know if it helps.

ONLY USE A NETWORK CABLE CONNECTION TO DO THIS AND ACTIVATE NETWORK BEFORE RUNNING DPKG.

Thanks for all your help, but I've had an email from Zorin explaining that my graphics card is not up to the job!!

So my laptop is gonna remain mint for the moment.

I have however dug out an old Packard Bell PC from the garage and installed Zorin in Fallback mode on that so the family can use it as a "Media" type centre!

Both my daughters have also had Zorin OS6 put on there netbooks along side XP and so far are loving it!!

Will probably get a 2nd hand lappy off Gumtree and have another go in the future!!

Thanks again!
