Trying to install Zorin OS on Macbook Pro running OS X. HELP

I'm having the hardest time understanding how to install Zorin on my Macbook Pro. I created a partition using Disk Utility and named it accordingly. I downloaded the zorin-os-6.2-core-64.iso file, and copied it to a DVD and a USB thumb drive. I installed rEFIt too. Whenever I tried to boot Zorin from the disc to install with rEFIt running, I held down ALT/Option but it booted straight to the rEFIt menu and only gave me the option of booting to a Mac or Windows OS.

From there, I uninstalled rEFIt, and tried to just boot Zorin from the disc. This time when I held down ALT/Option it only gave me the option to boot from Macintosh HD and wouldn't present the option to let me boot from a disc or USB drive.

I'm confused, and would greatly appreciate some help. There are many online resources, all saying I either need Bootcamp, rEFIt, or need to have FAT32 on my USB drive. I'm confused on what I actually need. Bootcamp confuses me, and I can't figure out how to install it, even though I downloaded the Bootcamp5 file.

Any help would be awesome! I will give my email if needed.

Hi and welcome,

for install instructions:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro

When you said that you "Copied" the ISO to a disk, you do know that you have to create a bootable OS don't you?, simply copying isn't enough, take a look here:

Hope this helps you further.

Ok, I've determined for the Model I have a MacbookPro5,5

On the page under my model, it lists;

Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin)

Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal)

Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat)

Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)

I'm once again confused :? Are these the Operating Systems I have an option of installing based on my hardware? Will I not be able to use Zorin? Also, it's recommended that I install 12.04 (Precise Pangolin), I take it this is different than Zorin OS?

I'm also having trouble partitioning my HD, it seems that whenever I follow the instructions on this page for "Partitioning"

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Macte ... stallation

Boot Camp Assistant only gives me 2 options;

"Download the Windows Support Software for this Mac" and

"I have a Mac OS X installation disc that came with my Mac or I have already downloaded the Windows support software for this Mac to a CD, DVD, or External disk."

I selected "Download the Windows Support Software for this Mac" because I'm under the impression I can't use Disk Utility because the partition instructions said "It cannot create Linux format partition" using Disk Utility.

However, whenever I select "Download the Windows Support Software for this Mac", after a short while of loading a window pops up that says;

"Download could not continue.

The Windows support software is not available."

I don't know if I'm stuck or what. Do I need to perform this step in Boot Camp Assistant? And if so, how do I find the support software?

Phew! Ok good to know I can still use Zorin. Thanks for the link, I will try that. But more than likely I'll be back with more problems :P Sorry I'm somewhat of a noob at this.
