I tried to install Zorin 7. The actual installation was hassle free. However on boot it could not detect my graphics. My gnome was all over the place. I could not click on any icons. Unlike the other Ubuntu distros I could not find driver manager.

I did not want to go back to zorin 6 which had problems with xsane detecting my scanner. I am on Mint 15 Cinemon which using simple scan out of the box.

I will be back to Zorin as soon as version 7 is sorted out. Please let me know when that happens.

Hi,

was that Zorin 7 or Zorin 7 Lite?.

Did you run DPKG per the guide?:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2247

Do you have an Nvidia graphics card?:

Try adding this PPA if you do:

Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa

Code:
sudo apt-get update

Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

For Zorin Lite and Zorin 6:

Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

Code:
sudo apt-get update

Code:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

Let us know if it helps.

That was a while ago. I don't remember all the steps. If I created an image on USB stick would I be able to carry out the above to try it out. Or must I do a full install to check for this?

Thanks.

I just ran the live image using virtual box. No graphic issues. But the old simple scan issue persists. I did not try to install the OS on Virtual box. Is there any point in going ahead with the install?

Hi Siawacsh,

what scanner/printer is it, make and model please, if it is from HP, it is really easy to set up!.

Zorin 7 Ubuntu 13.04) is only supported until Jan 2014, I assume Zorin 8 (Ubuntu 13.10) should be out near the end of the year!!.

I have to say, Wolfman, while you have been a great help throughout my time with zorin, some of your comments would make me think there is another person using your id. If you look back at my threads you will see simplescan and xsane with a long history. Last ocassion you were asking me to make sure my scanner was in an unlocked position...LOL!

I spent a whole ten days updating drivers, going through all the Ubuntu links you sent me. Nothing seemed to cure the scanner software instability. That was with Zorin 6. Then I installed Zorin 7 and the graphics were so bad that I had to go back to Mint. I mean, I could not even find device driver options under system settings. I am on Mint 15 Cinemon and all my peripherals, including simplescan, printer, external sound card all work right out of the box and are solidly stable.

However, I will come back to Zorin for it's flexability, and the fantastic support you and colleagues provide. But the above issues have to be sorted before it's worth my while returning.

Hi siawacsh,

I don't remember every detail of your previous posts and don't have the time or energy to search through all your threads to find out your hardware specs are and that is why I asked for make and model again.

I also don't have all the answers and must fish around in my second "I" to find a possible solution to the problem, often running a piece of hardware from a live CD won't give it the full support it requires even if the device is fully supported by Ubuntu based systems, the only way sometimes to to install the system and see if it works!, the printer should be switched on and powered up and as soon as the live CD is fully booted; checked by clicking on the > System Settings > Hardware > Printers icon to make sure it works!, did you try that at all?. I don't mean to belittle you at all, just fishing as I said before!.

And this: "Last ocassion you were asking me to make sure my scanner was in an unlocked position...LOL!" was actually the cause of one members printer/scanner not working!.

You can install the printer driver packages you have in live mode and see if it works, I cannot really say any more sorry!.

I decided to install Zorin 7 Lite over 6.2 Lite on my Eeepc 900 netbook (I'm running it off a 16 GB SDHC card). I had trouble downloading updates in 6.2 and finally borked it by stopping in the middle of an update which seemed to run forever.

I must say I like 7 better. No problems encountered so far, including updates. It runs pretty fast from the sd card (I only have a 4 GB SSD). I would recommend a class 6 or 10 SDHC card, for speed.

I now have Puppy Linux on the SSD and Zorin on the card. Both are great distributions, imho. The advantage of Zorin being the amount of software available and the regular updates.

How do I change the clock format on Zorin OS 7 Lite? It seems complex.

Hi Deci,

first off, here is my post install Zorin Lite guide, it doesn't have anything about clocks though:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4835

Take a look here at the Lubuntu help pages, that might be the answer you seek:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation

I am not in Lite at the mo, I will check it out later.

That's man. I managed to figure out what some of the codes do, like how %Y displays the year. I'm currently sticking with %R since I can read 24 hour time, but I prefer 12 hour time either way.

Also even though Zorin OS 7 Lite is much better for this old PC, it's actually harder to figure out than Zorin OS 7 itself.
