Hallo,
I tried an hdd installation with these packages. And in both cases the installer crashed in the final phase - hardware detection. Are these packages not adapted for dual core cpus? I got the links for these isos from Distrowatch.com.
Thanks in advance
Best regards

I would download from one of the following mirrors:

http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/zorin/

http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/zorin/

http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/zorin/

Next if downloading to windows, use winmd5free from http://winmd5.com to check the md5sum against the official one.

Finally use imgburn to burn your image to DVD at the slowest possible speed - but no slower than the minimum speed your burner will run at.

Yes, I used now your first mirror. In a Linux system I used Brasero for burning. I burned at low speed. The installation in a single cpu system was going straightforward - till the end phase.

But then the installer crashed again in a final step. Grub was written, he tried to delete some software. Then the installer collected information, but I did not find any logfile.
The last message was:

This is not an official Zorin package.
Please remove any third party packages and try again.

The could start the nearly installed system, but he stops with the big flashing Zorin icon.

Hi,

if you can still boot into the Grub menu after a failed installed, follow this guide:

Hope it helps.

Hi,

It did not help. After network dsl connection I get the repeated message - doing dpkg:

Code:
something wicked happened resolving 'archive.ubuntu.com: http ... (-11 - system error)
Ign http:archive ...

With a new start of ZorinOs I get a white long bar - without any Zorin icon.
How can I get a running ZorinOs Lite?
Is there any repair chance from a live system?

Hi,

copy/write down this command:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

Restart your PC in recovery mode and active your network using a network cable connection, once done, go to "root" and type in the above command and update then restart your PC with Ctrl + Alt + Del, do not click on "Resume".

Let us know if it helps.

Hi,
There is an additional problem: I start the recovery mode from Grub menu. The next step - I get the recovery menu. With or without cable connection I choose the root option. The next step - I am asked for and type my root password.

Then I get an error - segmentation fault - and it goes back to the recovery menu. I am not allowed to stay on command level.

Hi,

sounds to me like a bad disk burn, or your drive is defective?, did you burn the disk at the lowest and slowest possible speed?. (I know you said you burnt it slowly but it must be the slowest possible speed available!)

You must have the network cable connected and then click on "Network" before you drop to the root shell to enter the commands!.

Hi,

I have done it once more. I changed the hardware completely. Another hdd too. It is all the same. I installed from sdcard. I controlled the md5sums.
In the final phase of installation the last two messages are:

looking for packets to be removed
installation of basic system

Then the installer crashes with the wicked message after collecting information:

This is not an official Zorin package.
Please remove any third party packages and try again.

if you haven't already deleted everything, take a look at this thread:

If you have access to a Windows machine I would use imgburn - if not, install k3b as you have more control over burn speeds than Brasero.

Hi,

I think the burning speeds are not important, if I write on usbsticks or sdcards. Moreover I had controlled all md5sums of all my installation media.

Hi,

I start at square one.
There might be a problem with graphics. I use a laptop DELL Latitude C600 - with ATI Rage graphic chip.
I do not find in this forum a matching thread.

Hi,

disk burning speeds ARE important!, if you use a USB stick, it doens't matter as the files are being copied/installed on the USB stick and the transfer rate doesn't really play a part, if you don't burn disks at the slowest possible speed, you will get read/write errors on the disk which will lead to a faulty install!.

Have you tried the disk on a different PC and is the result the same?.

When you install, do you have an internet connection?, try disconnecting the internet and install without updates, do however select to install 3rd party software!.

Let us know if this helps.

Hi,

I did the last installations only with images from sdcard.
Without any internet connection I tried three different hardwares, different hdds:

Dell Latitude C600 with Ati Rage Graphic - 750 MHz, 512MB
ABit mb with Nvidia graphic 2 GHz 3GB
Fujitsu-Siemens with Intel 82945G/GZ graphic 3GHz 4GB

In all systems there is the same behaviour. It is not possible to get root access.

In terms of your Dell notebook you would be better trying with Zorin 6.1 Lite:

http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/zorin/6/

- if that does not work I would advise LXLE - I know it is not Zorin but if you are keen to have GNU/Linux that will work with your machine then LXLE might be the way forward for you:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5688&start=20#p27278

As for the Abit mobo -

1. What is the processor?
2. What is the model/chipset name of the nVidia graphics?
3. Is the Fujitsu-siemens a notebook?

Hi,

for the Abit mobo the processor is Intel E2180 2GHz Dual, the Nvidia graphic is C73 Geforce 7100.

The Fujitsu-Siemens complete pc is E5905 with Intel cpu SL8QB (D945) 3,4GHz. This is not a notebook.

For the 7100 machine have you tried pressing the tab key to add 'nomodeset' at the end of the line? Apologies to Wolfman if this was covered in one of your links earlier. Again given issues with Zorin 7 I would be tempted to go back to 6.1

As for the gma card I would suggest you stick with Zorin 6.1 Lite.

I would be curious to know if you have any issues with LXLE as this might be the way forward - sorry to disappoint but GNU/Linux OS's don't have extensive access to hardware drivers as they are proprietary and therefore 'closed source' thanks to the wonderful world of patents. Hi,

if the USB drive doesn't work on any of the other PC's, I would say you have a bad (corrupt) ISO file and that is why it isn't working, try downloading another ISO from a different location than your current version and reburn the ISO onto your stick!.

Hi,

I had checked all installation media, cds, sdcards and usbsticks. all have the correct md5sums. Why should they be corrupted? I used your recommended Heanet mirrors. Thank you for your patience. I want to end this discussion.

Hi Svgt,

even though the ISO might show as okay, it still doesn't mean that it couldn't be corrupted, did you format the USB stick to FAT32 fully before putting the ISO data on it, is your disk burner running at the slowest possible speed and have you tried the burnt media on other PC's other than your own 3?.

Did you run the "Check media" option on the Live disk to see if it is okay?.

It seems strange that it won't run on any of your PC's, have you tried other versions of Linux and do they work?.

I know you want this disscusion to end and so do we, we want you to be happy with Zorin but if Zorin won't work for you; try another version of Linux like:

http://lxle.net/

or:

https://www.linuxliteos.com/

Let us know how you get on.
