Long time Debian user here.
I am trying to set up and old laptop for an elderly lady to get her off winxp and onto something that will be safe online without having to learn a new system like win8.
I tried to install zorin-os-8.1-core-32.iso from usb and the install was extremely sluggish to the point of fail. I tried several times. Yes I did check the md5sum on both copies and they both checked fine.
I gather that zorin-live runs completely from memory, or so I read somewhere online. This machine only has 512M. It is a Toashiba Satellite A135-S7404. That may be why the install of v-8 failed.
I have v-7 that I downloaded some time ago. I was able to get a good install. Now I want to upgrade it to current but I fear the images will not work for the method that is described in your howto.
Not being real aquainted with how Zorin is built but know very well how to dist-ugrgade its parent system Debian it seams that i should be able to:
change the repos in /etc/apt/sources.list (would need to know the correct repo name)
sudo apt-get update,
sudo apt-get upgrade,
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
to get an upgraded system.
