[RESOLVED] Trying to Install Zorin on Blank System

I recently purchased a laptop pc with no OS on it. I am trying to install Zorin, but cannot seem to get started, as the system says there is no Bootable device. I have burned the ISO file to a DVD and have the disk installed when booting, but it still does not recognize it.

The reason for getting the laptop was to learn Linux. I have been a Windows user for a long time, but absolutely HATE Windows 8 and have no intention of going to Windows 9.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I burned another copy of the DVD at a slower speed (4X) and it appears to be installing now.

Hi, glad to hear you are making progress! Just be aware it takes a very long time to install compared with earlier releases. :D

Celeron based systems may not ecognize the OS. HAve you gone into the BIOS? Maybe the boot priority is not allowing you to boot from DVD.

Zorin seems to have installed, but when it boots, the video display is totally scrambled - unusable. I was able to get Ubuntu to load, but would prefer to have Zorin, if I can get it to work.

Any suggestions? The laptop is a Dell Latitude D820

When you get to the boot screen, press 'E' to edit boot parmeters and enter:

Code:
acpi=off nomodeset xforcevesa

keep us posted! :D

It went to the Zorin Logo start up screen and it seemed to hang, then it went crazy again. It appears like a mixup of horizontal and vertical lines. After a while, it goes to a blank (black) screen with multiple lines of code, then returns to the disrupted display screen.

I am able to install an older version of Linspire (Linux) but it won't access the internet. I can install Ubuntu v14, but it seems to have all kinds of issues with audio output (No Sound after initial startup).

I am starting to feel like I am wasting my time trying to learn Linux and any help to get something that works would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Well, it would be useful to have some information on the hardware and its specifications - Brand, Model, Processor, memory, graphics chipset. If you are struggling with core try:

Zorin 9 Lite (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zorin-os/files/9/)

LXLE 12.04 revisitied (http://lxle.net/)

SolydX (http://solydxk.com/homeedition/solydx/)

Netrunner14 (http://www.netrunner-os.com/)

LinuxLIte (https://www.linuxliteos.com/)

Slax (http://www.slax.org/)

Slitaz (http://www.slitaz.org/en/get/)

Qelitu (http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/O ... 0669.shtml)

Zorin 9 Lite installed and works like a charm. Next step is to download and install LibreOffice.

Thanks again, for all the help and pointers.
