I have installed Zorin 5 and is easy to use operating system but I do have
one problem and am looking for some help.

I have tearing on my video either MKV or MP4 playback with smplayer, gnomeMplayer
and VLC. I have installed Nvidia current but something is missing. I have zero issues
with Linux Mint latest kernel.

Thanks

Odd - just wondering which version of Zorin 5 you have (32 or 64 bit)? It shouldn't matter too much but it might help or point out something that may need fixing if it happens to more than one user. I have an Nvidia card myself and I am about to install the new version of Zorin 5 so I will get back to you on how I fare as well.

I am using the 64 version. Thanks for the replies. I have tried to
remove the nouveu driver and just use current but the problem
still exists. Tearing on playback otherwise a great operating
system. Really like the layout but need tear free playback or
is a deal breaker for me. Any suggestion is appreciated. The
nvidia control panel say's direct rendering enabled so I am
stuck :(

Could I possibly get you to try disabling the Nvidia drivers and trying again? This will narrow it down further. If the problem still persists we may be looking at something else.

I assume that the hardware installer works the same as
Linux Mint so I am guessing the Smplayer dependencies
or multimedia codecs are not being installed correctly.
I tried to disable Compiz but problem still exists. Have
no problem with 3d effects and so fourth. Put back on LM 64
and everything works right out of the box once Nvidia drivers
are installed so I do believe it is something else. Maybe the Z 64
Multimedia editions does not have this problem but not willing
to pay to find out and this time.

Thanks and I will look forward to the solution as this is a nice distro :D

@ greg1292

And do you still have flickr / video tearing :?: I use the Nvidia 210 Silent 1GB DDR3 and it works like a charm. I use the proprietary drivers (not experimental) It plays 720p and 1080p videos in linux without video tearing or lagg. I had to edit a few things to get this to work proper so i guess you can try it as well. Let me know and i will make a small tut.

Try installing the non-free-codecs package, w32 for 32 bit and amd64 for 64 bit!!. (type codecs in synaptic search and see what else might be missing!!)
