[SOLVED] Connectivity gone after libnl upgrade

Hi, I ran an update, and these packages were upgraded:

Code:
2016-01-30 01:34:57 upgrade libnl-route-3-200:amd64 3.2.21-1 3.2.21-1ubuntu1
2016-01-30 01:34:58 upgrade libnl-genl-3-200:amd64 3.2.21-1 3.2.21-1ubuntu1
2016-01-30 01:34:59 upgrade libnl-3-200:amd64 3.2.21-1 3.2.21-1ubuntu1

And then my internet disappeared.

How have these packages broken my internet access and how can I repair it?

I tried to ask on the Ubuntu forums but didn't get any help.

Hi, I suspect you have broken your system by stating 'upgrade' instead of 'dist-upgrade' - the latter looks for missing updates for applications that need to be updated to be compatible with recent kernel updates - 'upgrade' will have updated you to the latest 'buntu' release! You should back up your data and do a fresh-install but prepared to be corrected on this if I am wrong. ;) :D

That seems rather drastic.

I've looked online with my tablet and downloaded other versions of those libraries:

libnl-3-200-3.2.3-2ubuntu_amd64.deb
libnl-genl-3-200-3.2.3-2ubuntu_amd64.deb
libnl-route-3-200-3.2.3-2ubuntu_amd64.deb

Then transferred them to the Linux machine, and used dpkg to install them without a hitch. I have internet back.

I then tried to do "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and I get this nonsense:

Code:
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
You might want to run ‘apt-get -f install’ to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
crda : Depends: libnl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
        Depends: libnl-genl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
network-manager : Depends: libnl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
                   Depends: libnl-genl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
                   Depends: libnl-route-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
ntrack-module-libnl-0 : Depends: libnl-3-200 (>= 3.2.21) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
                         Depends: libnl-route-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
plainbox-provider-resource-generic : Depends: libnl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
                                      Depends: libnl-genl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
wpasupplicant : Depends: libnl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed
                 Depends: libnl-genl-3-200 (>= 3.2.7) but 3.2.3-2ubuntu2 is installed

I tried running "sudo apt-get -f install" and it simply reverted to the versions that break the system. I had to repeat the process.

How do I get the system to just go back to managing itself sanely again? I can't get apt-get or Synaptic to install anything now without resolving the "problem" of these working packages being installed instead of broken ones.

I've installed the 3.2.27 versions of each package now.

No longer any complaints about dependencies or anything. Great.

Rebooted, internet gone. Back to the drawing board.

I've just installed the 3.2.24 versions, and all seems to be well now. I'll mark this as solved.

I was recommending from personal gaffs I made with Zorin - I ended up half ubuntu/half Zorin = broken OS! ;) :D
