I wanted to install pcsx2 on my Zorin OS 10 Ultimate 64-bit. So I dug up help threads to install it, but it demanded a couple of dependencies and PPA's that turned out to be outdated versions of stuff I already had. These programs, such as Python for one, were not being detected as dependencies that I actually have installed. So I figured, "What the heck? Why not install the outdated versions as well, and then have hte app run off those in the background?"

That was a stupid idea. Soon as I started installing the needed dependencies with the older versions, a c*** TON of programs, libraries, and files that were updated and needed got installed by the legions. I immediately tried to use apt-get install update, apt-get upgrade, and apt-get -f install, to try to reclaim what I could, but my laptop is definitely missing a ton of programs and stuff that this OS comes with, like teh Software Center for one.

I have the Update Manager installed, but that is only because I reinstalled it manually. Is there a way to use the terminal to try to re-download/restore the factory files and apps that were removed, or should I boot to my cd and use it to restore to factory settings, and then reinstall the programs I had BEFORE I royally screwed the pooch?

Well there is a couple of things you could try:

Synaptic Package Manager - Fix Broken Packages (if it can find any)

Open a terminal and enter:

Code:
sudo apt-get update --fix-missing

Lastly, follow Wolfman's guide on how to use DPKG in Post Install Guide:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9785

If none work, back up data and do a fresh install.

Just to let you know you would be better using epsxe - it will run using the wine windows program loader far better than PCSX - got Spyro year of the dragon running quite well on Zorin! ;) :D

I did the --fix-missing so far, but I figured it would be pertinent to mention, that the last 10 or so lines always tend to look like this everytime I update or upgrade in general.

OK, that will always occur because those ppa's are not official Ubuntu/Zorin ones and not maintained by Ubuntu - that is why that happens. ;) :D
