Zorin OS 9 Lite: Weird behavior when dragging windows

Hi

I've installed Zorin OS 9 Lite alongside my Windows XP install and I have one strange problem.
Please note that I've never used any Linux OS before!

When I drag a window the movement is slow and jerky, so it might take 5-10 seconds to move depending on how long the movement is. The window "floats" away to the new position. Sometimes when the window reaches its new position it jumps back to the old position. :?
Any ideas what to do about it?

Some newbie questions:
How do I adjust the destop to my monitor?
What I mean is: If I open a program it's window is slightly to far to the left and it needs to be moved a few mm to the right.

Is it safe to open files in my Windows partitions from Zorin?
I've read somewhere that it's important to unmount partitions before shutting down Linux OS or else there is a risk of corrupting the data.
Is this true also for Zorin OS?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers

Sounds like you have a graphics card issue? To help us to help you:

Always advisable to unmount before shutting down - no issues copying/pasting between Zorin and Windows - you could always consider making a data partition which could be accessed by both OS's? ;) :D
