writing to drives interrupted

Every time I eject lets say a flash drive or ext. hard drive and unplug then plug it back in, I can not write to it (read only) even if I eject and remount or unplug and plug it back in. The only way around it is to restart my laptop. Any other way around it? or any way to fix the problem? (can be very frustrating). help appreciated (outside of reinstalls please :o ) :x

Plus is this a recent installl or only a problem that has occurred after it has worked before?

Thanks. ;) :D

try this..
run df -Th(to see where your USB stick is mounted)
unmount your USB stick
run dosfsck on the device you saw from your previous command.
F.e. dosfsck /dev/sdc1
remove and attach again your USB stick
