new install password problem

I have now successfully installed Zorin on my old Samsung laptop with a Windows 7 dual boot.

One problem: I cannot log in! I get incorrect password every time. I chose a simple password during the install process so I don't think it's possible I mistyped it two times.I also tried using caps lock just in case, but still incorrect.

I tried loading the Zorin recovery and going into root to change the password, but when I do this I get an "Authentication Token Manipulation Error."

How can I fix this password issue and access my newly installed Zorin system?

Thanks.

perhaps you have not mounted your root file system..

I followed the instructions in the video, but received the following message:

According to mtab, /dev/sda5 is already mounted in /

Ok after a bit of research, I was able to fix this problem, and will post the solution here.

It seems the authentication error occurs because of incorrect permissions set to /usr/bin/passwd

I used this command:

chmod 4511 /usr/bin/passwd

I was then able to change my password successfully, and I can now access my system.

hope this helps someone else who encounters the same situation.
