hp BDDVDRW CH20L not being detected

PDK

This drive seems to be a common problem for many on various distros for years now..

I'm reaching out to see if anyone has overcome this issue or knows how to fix this.

1. Most of the time when I start up the computer the drive is not detected by the OS and after a reboot it doesnt even respond. I have to turn it off for a long period of time or remove power completely and restart. THEN...

2. I can force it to be detected (intermittently) by opening the drive when I turn on the system and closing it after I press enter at the bootloader. More often than not this does not work.

I have tried various recommendations and no luck resolving this issue. I was just wondering if anyone using Zorin like myself has a fix.

Thanks and good day.

Hello again,

The DVD drive itself is intermittently being recognized by the OS.

This has nothing to do with decryption.

Thanks.
