Login Keyring

I changed my boot up to be without a password. now, every 5 or 10 seconds, I get hit with a message asking me to supply my login keyring, which is basically the same as booting up with a password. What good is booting without a password if you have to log in anyway? Sounds crazy to me. I don't feel I need to boot with a password, as it's only me and my wife living here. nobody here to worry about.

Can't guarantee this will work, it's for Mint but I went through it until the actual change and it looks like it will, no blaming me if it doesn't

It would appear to have been an ongoing bug since Maverick (Ubuntu 10.10 = Zorin 5):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/637702

and on and on it goes:

What is a keyring anyway, and should I care? I also had this problem with Deepin.

I went back to logging in, much easier this way.

I believe it's an added level of security. A bit like that annoying Windows habit where you can never get root administrator access.

I had the same problem with the keyring feature. Zorin 12 Ultimate support helpfully suggested:

"However, if you decide to keep our passwords in an unsafe state (non encrypted), you can disable the keyring password prompt by following this guide: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2013/07/disable-unlock-login-keyring-ubuntu-13-04/"

I found this less than helpful as the "solution" looked nothing like the window used by Zorin12 (different wording and features).

I have been waiting for a week for them to clarify what to do with Zorin 12 - I guess they are busy! - I have already had to raise far more queries than I would ever have expected - there seem to be so many "intelligence" tests i.e. hidden features (presumably known to initiates) and missing expected features - so far not a patch on Zorin 9.

For me not a patch on 11!

I am hoping I have found the solution :

Again, Swarf, you are a star! Thanks.

However, for us mortals, what exactly do we have to do to get rid of the Keyring password request from popping up with alarming regularity, once we have the guide for reference.

It's all in the article where you have to edit a PAM file in /etc. The old fashioned way was the Gnome Wallet keyring - you just entered a blank password and that should have stopped it from recurring - but now with Gnome 3 I am not so sure. Guess they don't want you to have an insecure system which is a valid point in some regards. If you want total security from theft, then, create a BIOS password before boot. In fact the best article I read (and can't find the missing first/second part from Linux Magazine showed how to create a secure Desktop/Notebook by using a usb memory stick - the machine would not boot without it - Nice touch and no passwords to remember! :D
