Hi,
I wasn't sure how to make a clearer subject title but here's my situation. I have a dell 15 laptop running windows 7 and Zorin 9. I only use windows maybe 3-4 times a year (but I do occasionally need it). Everything has worked great for about a year and half. Last week I needed to get into windows. The battery was quite low (and I was away from my power cord), so I shut the computer off and left the room. Well, I didn't think about the windows updates which started automatically. Long story short---the battery ran down and the laptop shut down in the middle of the update---now I can't boot into windows from grub, nothing happens. Worse, I can't get online on Zorin (though everything else works fine in linux). I believe this is because the button for the wireless card in windows got turned off. This is a little more than just a theory as several times since I've had the notebook, I haven't been able to get online (wireless) in Zorin and the only thing that works is to boot windows and turn on the wireless card. This works. I'm not sure how it gets turned off but it does. The same thing would happen in my last dell notebook too.
Anyway, I do have a reinstallation CD from dell for windows 7. I don't suppose it it's possible to run it on the windows partition alone---is it? Is there any better option than just saving my zorin home folder, reinstall windows, then reinstall zorin? And, of course, then reinstall all my programs. Too bad as I have Photoshop (with several 3rd party plug-ins) and Illustrator running nicely in Linux. Of course, my preference would be to keep Linux as is and just run the Dell reinstallation dvd solely on the windows partition but is it possible? Any ideas?
Thanks for reading!
