Zorin 12.1 and WINE regarding HP ScanJet 5000

Zorin is running on a HP Compaq C2D cd5800 SFF with 8 GB of RAM and 250 GB of HD. It's currently designated as a test machine running Windows 8.1 Pro alongside Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon, Linux Lite 3.2, Peppermint 7 and Zorin 12.1. I am trying to get my HP ScanJet 5000 to run with Zorin via WINE before installing the former on my HP Compaq nx9030 laptop. I want Zorin to be the sole OS on the laptop but I still need to scan my files via the HP Scanjet 5000. I am able to install HP ScanJet application and open it in Zorin; however, my "scanner is not detected" and Zorin freezes every time. I have to cold-boot the system to get back in. My question: how do I get WINE to recognize my HP ScanJet and works!

Hi, I would avoid wine - if you don't need OCR and just want it for images install the demo of vuescan from here:

Getting Canon Pixma is a lot simpler but again no OCR.

What if you would install virtualbox and install do w10 in a host and do the scanning in that. Just passthrough the device to the virtual machine.-
