System Requirements for different releases

I'm reviving an iMac G5 Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz, with 1 Gb RAM. I'm hoping to run Zorin Core but the memory in it won't let me run OS 12. An earlier version probably will, but I can't find system requirements for earlier versions. Where can I find a list?

I know I can run the Lite versions, but I'd rather run Core.

You could try Zorin 6 (http://www.linuceum.com/Distros/osIntroToZorin.php) but bear in mind that support for this ended in April of this year and it is not as secure as later releases - even 9 will have some security issues (re. Turla flaw).

Thanks. Is there a list somewhere of the system requirements of all the releases? I see that 9 might work. Is this a correct assessment of 10:

Zorin OS [minimal]

– 512 MB of system memory (RAM)

I would have said from 9 up you should really be looking at a minimum of 1.7 Ghz processor with 2 Gb RAM if possible with 16 Gb of free hard drive space but that would be limiting the full potential of the system, remembering you also need hard drive space for 'linux swap/swap area' (= to RAM), for smooth experience.

Got plenty of HD space, and 1.83 GHz. I found RAM for sale too, and can take it up to 2 Gb, and probably will.

One thing to also bear in mind, whilst generalisations can be made about quantity of RAM there is a difference when it comes to the speed of the FSB (Front Side Bus) and what the motherboard supports - no point in paying out for fast RAM when the Motherboard will either reject (won't recognise it) or clock it downwards to match what it can run at.

Going as far back as version 3 can be done (with modifications, of course!) and it can be used with at least SOME degree of usability. From what I remember, recent versions of Firefox work on these old releases. Just unzip the tar file and run it that way. I've used every release (1 to 12) and of all 12 of them, 11 was the most stable. It begs the question: Could quote on quote "hackers" resurrect an old distribution and somehow backport the newer kernels so they work on said versions? Old, unsupported distros are fairly capable today. Much moreso than any old Windows version.

That depends on your rig. I tried to install 5 without success. Remember that the newer the hardware the newer the kernel is needed.
