software updates failed to install due to missing iproute 2

Not come across that error message before - go to Software and Updates from the menu and ensure that software source is changed from your country server to 'Main Server'.

Next, open a terminal and enter:

tried installing upgrades again but got the same error message: E:The package iproute2 needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

Clicked on install but nothing happens, will not install.
Red warning in notification area reads: An error occurred, please run package manager from right click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong.The error message was : Unknown Error:'<class 'SystemError'>' (E: The Package iproute2 needs to be reinstalled, but I cant find an archive for it,)'. This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies
