Keep getting error messages

I'm using Zorin 11 Lite. Been trying to copy some files to a backup hdd and flash drive but keep getting "don't have permission" or "error creating directory" when it won't allow me to even create a directory. Is there a way to disable this bs permantely? Thanks.
