stuck on activities screen

hi I have installes zorin 12.1 on 3 machines. 2 of them fine after updates, one is stuck on activities screen can anyone help?

Have you tried doing a hard power off by holding the power button for 4 seconds and rebooting? If it restarts with checking file system DON'T ABORT! ;) :D

I had similar problems a month or two back - I didn't even realise I was stuck on the activities page to start with:

I am sorry that this is a long thread, but you will see some things to try.
