I have found that a fresh install of Zorin 12.1 seems to hang and freeze a little from time to time until a few days later and/or updated. Have you tried running the Software Updater manually and not the one on the Software Centre but "Software Updater" from the Menu.
I did a fresh install of 12.1 on a virtual machine recently and it had about 1.5 GB of available updates, don't recall if it was Core or Ultimate though.

Hi, madvinegar posted a long time ago how you can change your OS Identity to Ubuntu but I can't find it on here or elswehere on the net - if you can do that then the packages needing Ubuntu would get installed. ;)

i tried this

CODE:
$ sudo cp /etc/lsb-release /etc/lsb-release.bak
$ kdesudo kate /etc/lsb-release
Replace with:
Quote:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=14.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=Xenial
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Zorin 12.1"
and save file, then:
CODE:
$ sudo intel-linux-graphics-installer

still said unsupported distro

I use this file at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:

Copy/Paste this

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "TearFree" "True"
EndSection

This could also be added to a pre-existing xorg.conf

I'm using a different OS, but I made a bootable usb to try it again.
I used htop and found that gnome shell has CPU spike between 30% - 60% when there's lag.
