Periodic open laptop shutdowns

Periodically, I have found my laptop shutting down whilst I am in the middle of a work session.

I have lost quite a sessions in this manner over the last few months - finally stumbling on a workaround.

I noticed that the screen went blank to start with and then that the laptop shut down as if I had closed the lid.

I found that if I closed the lid, as soon as the screen went blank and lot the shutdown complete, the session would reopen when I opened the lid.

Theory overheating - but it does not shutdown again immediately often completing a full session. Sometimes it will run for weeks with no problem. It has been worse in the current hot spell however. I never hear a fan running and don't know if there even is one.

Machine spec:

Entroware Notebook (Laptop); Model: Kratos 1000; Intel Core i5 6300HQ - up to 2.3 GHz (4 core); Intel HD graphics 530 (Skylake GT2); RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz; Zorin 12 Ultimate; 500GB Hard Drive; Hard Drive partitioning - automatic; Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 940M 2GB; WiFi: Intel AC-8260 WiFi + Bluetooth & Gigabit Ethernet; Optical drive: DVD+-R/RW/+DL; Webcam 2.0Mp 720p.

Anything that I can try to get things better? Any apps to check CPU temps etc or other diagnostics (linux seems thin on the ground here)?

Well you could install sensors to check the cpu temps,

Code:
sudo apt install lm-sensors

Genereate the base configuration. I answered all yes, if i remember correct.
Code:
sensors-detect

Then in terminal run
Code:
watch -n 1 sensors

Thanks, Qnarkill - I have raised the issue with Entroware technical support - pecialist Linux laptop suppliers of my Kratos 1000.

I will post whatever they recommend.

In the meantime, if there is a problem I will start using Opera on battery power (I usually stay connected to the laptop charger) - it has a useful power reduction feature which could well help me.
