Hi S.

why on heaven (on experimental mode) would I try to update (not rc) - to the latest kernel.

so my question: is a newer kernel a part of the updates we get from Zorin 12.2 ultimate running linux 4.10.0.42.46

I have never seen that before. All my kernel updates get installed via Software Updater. I'd never use a separate utility for updating the kernel. ;) :D
