Forum search not working.

Almost A Myth

Hello. I am a new Linux user and have some questions about Zorin 12.2. I'm sure they've been addressed in this forum, but when I try to search for the keywords the search feature doesn't work. Says: "The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: look windows xp.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards."

I then searched for just "windows", just "windows xp", and just "windows look", and get the same message.

Obviously the topic I'm searching for has to do with the windows xp look feature that I specifically chose Zorin for. I found the Zorin Appearance section and under the "desktop" tab there are three unnamed layouts to choose from. However, while each layout provides different look in Zorin, none of these layouts are anything like windows xp. The middle layout makes the taskbar look like xp, but the start menu is unchanged. I don't even know what o/s that's supposed to be mimicking, windows 7 perhaps? But it's not the XP look alike I've seen in screen shots like on this page: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-xp-zorin-os/.

So how do I search these forums?

And how do I get Zorin 12.2 to look like windows XP?

Thank you.

Hi Almost A Myth,

Yes, you are not the only user of this forum that gets frustrated with the search function! I'm afraid your search for an XP look will now prove fruitless unless a separate 'theme' developer has created one for Zorin. In addition, apps like GnoMenu have 'died' and been resurrected into a Win10 like menu as Gno-menu Extension for the Gnome Shell.

If you are wanting to customise a GNU/Linux distro to look like XP then go for Makulu Lindoz:

Download from: https://sourceforge.net/projects/makulu/

On a recent copy of Linux Format I noticed:

If you have an older piece of kit you may want to download the installation CD to avoid issues as the Live CD comes with pae - there is a workaround but it will make the system very slow. https://www.q4os.org/downloads1.html

This latter one may be the best alternative - whatever you do, Enjoy computing with GNU/Linux. ;) :D

It still won't provide what he is looking for - hopefully my alternatives will suffice. :P
