Disable Touchpad not working

I installed Zorin and like a lot of other Linux Distros there is a problem. The shortcut to disable the touchpad notifies on the screen but does nothing. There are some Distros this works on but not many. Ubuntu Mate it works on but not any of the other flavors of Ubuntu. I have yet been able to find a cure for this. Sometimes it will work before you install it but not after. There is nothing exotic about the Laptop, its a Asus U52 so nothing special at all.

Any pointers on this?

Hi,may I suggest you switch over to Zorin Ultimate v.12
in menu type touchpad and bingo all is at hand
why you need a shortcut? you can always use 'add to panel( to have it visible) on your desktop.

I have really tried to love this distro, it keeps failing me. In 12.1 Ultimate the touchpad options were there to do it manually, never would do it from the fn shortcut, in 12.2 it is not even there. (screenshot included).

my screenshot comes from Ultimate 12.2 - in system info named Zorin 12 xenial (x86-64)

ok, in menu go to software and select 'mouse and touchpad' and install
