Wi-Fi Problems! PLEASE HELP!

I installed Zorin OS on my computer almost a week ago after watching a video about it online. It seemed wonderful and easy, especially how his Wi-Fi networks immediately showed up. I noticed how I was not getting the Wi-Fi symbol it the lower right. I concluded that it was a driver problem because I ran into that with Linux Mint. The driver menu recognized it and said it was enabled. After emailing support, they sent me here: http://zorinos.com/help/set-up-wireless-hardware/ I tried that and found something interesting. What I found was that the manufacturer's website had multiple drivers to download. I got this same error message with each one I tried to install. I have attached a picture of it. However, one of the drivers I tried said, "Hardware Present: Yes." Attached a pic of that as well. I told support about my discoveries and they said to try the forum. So, here I am! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

I am running version 12.3. It is not a dual boot. My laptop does not have an ethernet port, unfortunately. I have attached a photo of the specifications.

1. HP Streambook 11 https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp ... ku=K3Y84UA

2. 1.8 GB

3. No dual boot

4. Just one partition; 28.6 GB

5. Intel Bay Trail

6. *UNKNOWN*

7. *UNKNOWN*

8. I did, and the same missing Wi-Fi thing happened, but I figured it was because it needed to be installed for it to recognize the hardware.

9. Zorin OS 12.3

I know very little about Linux, so please forgive me if I say something wrong. I am sorry that there are items I do not know. :? Thank you!

* Before you trying to install these drivers make you sure that you installed all updates* Start->System Tools->Software Updater

If your Wi-Fi still not work try to install your drivers manually.

But you need a Internet Connection by Lan or with usb tethering from your phone to install wifi drivers

Enter this in the Terminal step by step

Your Wifi-Card in your notebook is called : Realtek RTL8723BE/RTL8188EE but i dont know what driver works for you

RTL8723BE

Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git
git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
cd rtlwifi_new
make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe rtl8723be

If you still have no Wifi try the next driver

RTL8188EE

Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic git dkms
git clone http://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
cd /path/to/rtlwifi_new
make
sudo modprobe -rv rtl8188ee
sudo make install
sudo modprobe -v rtl8188ee

Good Luck^^

Hi pal

Check your BIOS settings and look for secure boot option. It mainly has to do with the secure boot enabled and if it's enabled then a third party driver can't be loaded.

The reply of Alexander88207 (thanks) above could have been mine.

Oh yes take the LITE version of Zorin OS 12.4 as your specs are very low.

when you connect 'wired' it is a matter of pushing through to install with a linux driver (view Realtek's failure to deliver)

please let us know success or downfall

I asked for a Terminal command as the specification sheet for your notebook quotes 3 different wireless chipsets:

Broadcom, Realtek, and Intel:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/se ... el/7563443

Just to add what zorinantwerp stated, Realtek devices tend not to be GNU/Linux friendly.

If all else fails, get a GNU/Linux compatible dongle from here:
