Can't install programs.

I am a new Zorin user I have used Ubuntu a little bit. I am using a older net book with a dual core 1.6 and 2G RAM. I can't seem to be able to install programs that are not in apps. Tried Opera and NordVPN both are compatible with linux. After downloading and opening it goes to the install screen I hit install put my password it works at it for a short time and then nothing, still states I have to install.

do I understand correctly that no other OS is present. which version of Zorin is installed - light? (see settings/icon details)

did a test to install Opera (with VPN built in) using snap
