Disappearing apps

A little it of a mystery here - no big deal, but would like to know how it happened.

I noticed that both he DVD::RIP and Play on Linux start up icons, which I had placed on the desktop, were reduced to small, grey, rectangular versions of themselves and they no longer started the apps.

I reinstalled both apps using Synaptic Package Manager and their normal bright colours, size and functionality were back.

How had the apps come to be deleted from my machine? - they were not there when I searched for them by name before I reinstalled them.

Don't know why it should have happened but found similar issues and resolution:

"done a little more experimenting and found this...

add nautilus to the session startup. System...preferences... sessions... and add a new program with nautilus as the command."

Hi Swarf - thanks for the link.

However WOT gave it an orange swerve - so did not open it.

I'm happy that I have got my apps back and I can accept it is a limited Nautilus issue.
